Question Petrol pump law

Hi Guys

Google is no help so I am turning to the trust worthy and not so on here.

I was under the impression that it was illegal for a person under the age of sixteen to use a petrol pump??? Yet I have just heard that it is illegal for any persons under 16 to even stand next to the pump when it is dispensing fuel.

Anyone know which is true or if indeed both are???

Cheers

S

6 As far as is reasonably practicable, persons under the age of 16 years should be denied access to petrol.

9 Irrespective of the mode of operation, forecourt attendants should not be under the age of 16 years and no one under the age of 18 years should be left in sole charge of a filling station.

My dad always made me fill up his car when I was a lad whilst he sat in the car/went off to pay.

They often play up about my Land Rover: Being a lightweight, the fuel fillers are under the seats. So they wonder what the hell I am doing threading the filler hose into the cab.

I remember once as a child holding a petrol pump nozzle while filling my dads car when the facist till monkey used the public address system (not sure if was made by tannoy or not) to tell me to leave it alone and step away from the hoze...
Not sure about standing by it though... That's a bit bizaare - but believable!

Well a friend was filling his truck up with his 8 year old dauhter and when they went in to pay the lady told him that it was illegal for anyone under 16 to stand next to the pumps. Very weird.

Cheers for the replies
