8mm camcorder or VCR question...
I have recently found some old 8mm camcorder tapes of the kids when they were tiny, family holidays, Christmas etc. However when I've dug out the old Sony 8mm camcorder I've found it broken.
Is anyone in the Wakefield/Leeds area aware of anywhere that is able to loan or hire me a player, which will allow me to get the videos off the tapes and on to DVD and converted to avi?
I've checked ebay and they seem to bring half decent money, seeing as you can get cheap digital stuff these days, so I'd rather not have to go through buying one (praying that its not duff), using it then having to relist and sell the thing.
Any suggestions greatly received.

Are they full sized tapes, or mini DV?
I defo have one of the latter, and MAY still have a working older model, if I can lay my hands on it.
I could put your tapes onto DVD if it's either of the above and I can find the older one, but what is avi? My DVD has facility to put stuff in straight from a camcorder, I think it's called "DVin".
I'm only in Scunny, so I'll have a look and let you know, you could pop over one evening.

BuRR,
What is "broken" with your camcorder?? If it is just a battery/power problem, you can probably sort something out. Is the "Wakefield Sony Centre" still trading - they may have some parts/advice!

Hi guys
It's well and truly smoked - the thing runs, but all AV outputs are dead and the internal screen (viewfinder) shows that all's not well (single white line down the middle)

The tapes are all 8mm, and from the prices of the companies on ebay, I think it would be cheaper to buy a camera and then sell it on.

He doesnt want to send the tapes off for numerous reasons
Unless you have hidden the Alison videos
Steve, I have my old Hi8 camcorder and Donna has a standard 8mm Camcorder too here that we dont really use anymore ( we still need them for the same reasons you have though as I cant be bothered to transfer them)
You can borrow mine if you get stuck locally

lol... cheers for the help so far guys.
Problem is the distance you both are away from me, and the cost of fecking fuel. Might be better off if I buy a £20 camcorder and record from that.

BuRR,
As i am in the Midlands (with a working 8mm camcorder and a broken video walkman), a twenty quid ebay is probably the cheapest option - but have you tried the Wakefield Sony centre just in case??
