Thanks Andy (both of you). I dont know if its on the news or anything, buy as I was sat here it occured to me... The Americans tend to kid themselves about WW2, but theres no denying that their landing on D-Day was hell and we owe it to the soldiers involved, and to ourselves, to remember.

Definately not overlooked.
I sat at my PC about 8.45 this morning, thinking that 64 years ago now, men were dying by the second, for the benifit of our freedom.
I couldn't think of a way to express my thought's, without moaning about the world today, so didn't bother.
My grandfather went in on the 6th. Not first wave, he was in the Desert Rats who went in later in the day, due to being battle hardened.
They were at sea, waiting to go in, so god know's what they were thinking.
The BBC website did a bit 'on this day'.
I have been over to Normandy & the Somme, to pay my respects to our relatives. Not glamourising it, but both area's are worth a visit, if you feel inclined.
The above picture is of the US cemetry above Omaha. For those who are interested, in the film 'The Longest Day' the winding route off the beach towards the end of the film, is still there and leads to this cemetry.
Also a time to think of all of our lads away on active duty at the moment.
Risking life and limb so we can be free to chat on here & such like.

Maybe 'Saving Private Ryan' for this evening: principally for the beach landing scenes. My girlfriend bought me BoB a few weeks ago (to replace my moody copy); it has to be the most engaging television series I have ever seen.

My wife's great uncle was a commando who followed the gliders into Pegasus Bridge, so we have lots of reasons to remember today. He made it for around 3 weeks after they landed but was shot whilst out on patrol in a village.
We have been to his memorial in Ranville Cemetary a couple of times. Very sobering.
