Don't think we are just talking ou way into a recession and this can't be the medias fault
Insurance Giant Aviva Set To Axe Up To 1800 Jobs |Sky News|Business
Plus the 2-3000 or more who will get the chop from Northern Rock, plus the 450 going from Orange.
Next two years are going to be scary
Anyone know anyone else 'downsizing?'

Spoke to a supplier who told me they had 2500 people three years ago now they have 200 people. I get dozens of calls a week asking for work and that says something.
Manufacturings been suffering for a bit now and it looks as if its filtered down to other industries and its really hitting home.
I really, really hope i'm wrong but i think were in for a bad 'un
People offset this by increased borrowing but now the cost of living has rocketed people are drawing their horns in.
No doubt Labour will put all the people laid off onto some training scheme or disability benefit so they dont have to declare them as officially unemployed and thus not affect the figures too much.
Sorry 'bout the Labour rant
But you know where i'm coming from

I'm in construction (Industrial Roofing & Cladding) and any reccesion is bad news for us.
Luckily we are a small company, so overheads are relatively low compared to many in our sector.
Times are indeed getting tough. We've already seen a possible project pulled due to the client deciding it's the wrong time to be spending £50m.

Its quite strange all this recession lark, and folks laying folks off
I start a new job, and they are pretty much doubling in size, and have won some very good contracts, so there is plenty out there depending on which sector you are in

I bet he's crapping it now because he's used to such a high wage (told me once that he could not survive on 30k - ****** )
I think the contsruction industry is gonna suffer big time.
There seems to be a pile of unsold apartments in Manchester at the moment

I'm at Rolls-Royce. 2300 jobs to go this year with the ball rolling already. Most have gone through voluntary but there's still a few left to get rid of.
I'm in a group of 8. 1 of which needs to go.....

15% of the workforce (so about 150 people) went at the firm I work for a couple of months back.
A lot of our customers are cutting jobs and its looking like a few contracts wont get re-newed as clearly the firms are struggling, so its not good for us.

The company I am leaving has just won a 4 million pound contract, and the company I am going to have won quite a few long term big contracts too, and one of our Vendors has just won a massive contract in Dubai, and a massive contract for Formula 1

We are still actively recruiting. I work for an Engineering/Process Safety Consultancy. We do a lot of work for the chemical and oil industry though which helps!
