Had a week in January near Nerja a few years back. Too cool for sun & sand, so we did a lot of sight-seeing and traveling. We visited Granada and the magnificent Alhambra Palace, Gibralter with its caves, monkeys and red telephone boxes Ronda is pleasant on market day, as is Mihas. Guadalazema and Guadalahors national parks are stunning with superb driving roads. Puerto Banus is OK for an evening meal, but the real rich don't go there any more. Marbella seafront on a Sunday morning is great for people-watching and coffee.

We went in July 2005. I'd agree with what corradoboy said.
The caves were so-so, a bit commercialised for me but worth seeing if you're there.
Burriana Beach is very nice and worth a visit. We wouldn't eat on the Balcon De Europa as service was poor plus it was overpriced and poor quality. You can find much better elsewhere. Its quite a nice place to be for an evening though.
We went out and explored the surrounding villages, many of which are very old and unspoilt. Well worth exploring IMO.
I wouldn't want to ride a bike around Nerja thats for sure We just had a Micra which did us proud.

Been twice this past 7 years, love it.
We did Granada which was a nice place to visit, Frigiliana is nice although not much to do there, Gibraltar is bloody miles away, about 4 hours each way in a car IIRC.
Marbeya (sp?) is worth a visit as well.
We tended to spend time on Burriana beach drinking cocktails served by a fit waitress.

We stayed in Frigiliana last time. Had a villa up in the hills overlooking the sea. Lovely place! Apparantely Mel Griffiths owned the villa next door, so the rep said anyhow, lol.
We ate in Nerja quite alot, some place called Cafe del Mar, owned by a couple of ex-pats, awesome food and great service. Will defo be going there again.
I love Nerja at night, comes alive about 9pm. Just need something to occupy us during the day when were not by the pool burning, lol.

I've just moved back after 3 years living there. PM me if you want any help/tips etc.
Burriana..way too touristy IMHO. Puerto Banus/Marbella...ok for a day trip but too many wannabees and Brits.
Frigliana is nicer now they have stopped the building works but torrox costa is best place for proper night out...10 mins from Nerja. Also take a look al Almunecar and La Herradura about 20 mins past Nerja...fantastic beach and lovely restaurants and lots of pretty people....

Nerja to Gibraltar driving time is now down to around 2 hours, as long as you stick to the A7 and use the pay sections of motorway around Fuengirola, Marbella, and Estepona.
We holiday in that part of spain every year, and each year a new piece of the A7 is opened.
