North West 200 - anyone else going?
Just curious if anyone on here has been before.
It's my first time, although I'm going with a mate who has been before and also has friends who live on the circuit (where we are staying/spectating).
Extra activities include the Giant's Causeway and tour of Belfast city centre. Anything else I should consider doing?
In case anyone was wondering, it's Northern Ireland's version of the Isle of Man TT - see here for details.

My interest has waned, after the loss of Joey, David Jefferies, Gus Scott and many others... (Ronnie Smith and Steve Hislop too, although they died off course).

I raced there once, and have spectated a few times.
Great event, best place i have found to watch is from someones front garden on the coast road. Quite a few of the locals let you on anmd some even set up a barbie as well.
You will never see as many drunk people in the same place at the same time as you will at the North West. Good night out is at the pub down at York Corner a few hundred yards down from the start line.
Martin Finnegan will be sadly missed this year...
Have a great time - enjoy the guiness - and put some pics up when you get back

Get hammered on Saturday and then take an early trip to Carrick a rede on Sunday morning to 'clear you head'
Best place to watch is from Metropole hill. Hairpin at the end of a fast downhill straight. Usually see 3 or 4 bikes with their back wheel 18 inches off the ground tring to occupy the same square inch of tarmac.
If you want to see outright speed, the section between station and university is best. 200+ MPH, which looks quite quick from any viewpoint

My mate Paul is racing there for the first time this year
I was supposed to be going (Thursday, coming back Sunday) and pit crewing for him but new job prospects mean I have to stay here on the Island
Would have been my first time at the NW200 also, oh well there is always next year
Good Luck Paul (not that you are ever gonna read this)
About the number of drunken people in one place, have you ever been here for TT? The island is covered in drunken bums every night
Have fun Jerome I am sure you will love it, Ireland is a beautiful place

A real shame. My favorite memory of Robert was at the British GP in ~1992 doing demo laps on the Norton and doing vertical wheelies out of the old hairpin at the bottom of Craner Curves every time and only barely hanging on. Nutter. Heaven's Road Racing Team is pretty much unbeatable now, though.

Got up early this morning and took the kids up. Robert Dunlops son Michael won the first 250 race. Real tear jerker. What sort of commitment do you need to do that.
Took a few back roads up to station for the superbike race. Wife and kids have never been before, and watching 250's from behind bales and fences doesn't give you a real impression of speed. We found a wall near station and got settled for the superbike race. TV helicopter was just coming overhead on lap one, so I told the girls to get ready. Not sure how you would usually get ready for 6 bikes passing you line abreast at 195 MPH, the closest being maybe 4 feet away, and the furthest being about 15 feet away. Youngest one is a real goody two shoes, doesn't even say fart or pee. Her immediate reaction was to say (and i quote) "f*ckin f*cking f*ck" - Older one just looked at me wide eyed and said "Was that people?"
Went over to Mathers Cross for the rest of the day. 160 MPH right hand kink..... completely insane. Steve Plater used the grass verge to pass Michael Rutter in the second superbike race.
Brilliant day out. The other good this was 100,000 drunk people 50,000 sober people and so far only 4 arrests reported
