Any payroll people on here?
Hi there,
Bit confused on what I should do about the following:
Last tax year my brothers company employed a guy just for a few hours a week. He worked part time in a supermarket. We sent off a P46 for him and added him to the payroll using BR tax code.
However, this tax year he has left his employment with the supermarket and given us his p45. So what do I do?
Fill in the details as if we are his new employer? Even though he is already registered as our employee? Then add the figures into our payroll software and use his proper tax code?
What happens when he gets another job and we don't sack him?
Just a bit confused on the correct procedure.
Thanks for any advice
Steve
(Yes I know I should ring the Revenue but I know scoobynet has the answer)

Ring the tax office in Southend (I see your in Wickford).
Tell them the situation and they will give you the best advice for free.

Keep him as BR for the time being. He'll need to inform his tax office that he now only has one job and he wishes for them to hold his tax code. The HMRC will then notify you of his new tax code, with all previous earnings and tax paid from April on a P6 form. This is when you change his code
