Default Digi eye problem

Hi.

I have a Sky box in the front room and a coax cable that runs under the floor to the kitchen where I have another TV. I tried a digi eye set up on this a few months ago but it would not work.

I was told the problem was that as I had to put a few connections in the cable because I mis judged the length, this causes the small voltage the cable needs to carry from the Sky box to leak and hence it doesn't work.

The coax cable is hidden beneath a finished floor that cannot be dug up.

Is there any gadget solution to this problem? If not I'll have to drill a hole in the front room run another unbroken cable around the outside of the house to the kitchen, then drill a hole there etc etc

Thanks

Deep, have you used twin insulated coax? We have a similar set up and our picture on the kitchen telly was awful until we put a continuous run of twin coax in which made all the difference.

We used to use a wireless sender in our old house to send the signal from the Sky box to the telly in the bedroom but it suffered from interference, you could try one of those.

Have a look here: Sky Magic Eye or Wireless AV Sender - AVForums

I'm sure it was the twin insulated stuff. It has the main outer plastic sheath and then a stiff wire running through a hard piece of plastic in the middle.

The digi sender won't allow you to change channels in the kitchen will it?

The digi sender will work (in theory ) wherever you put it, we had the Sky box in the lounge with the base unit of the sender and could change channels on the bedroom telly where the other unit of the sender was based.

Twin insulated has the outer rubber, braided copper, copper foil then the plastic bit with the wire up the middle. This made all the difference to the picture on ours, not sure how it would affect the magic eye...I assume your having probs changing channel?

You have got the voltage bit set to 'on' on your Skybox haven't you?

Yes. The little red light on the bit of the magi eye that fits onto the skybox output lights up, which means all is well at that end. No red light at the kitchen end though, hence voltage leaking out somewhere.

If you can change channels with a digi sender I'll look into those.

Thanks
