Default Extortionate Home Insurance?

I wonder how many people just renew their home insurance year after year without shopping around?

In January my renewal came through at £545, that's a bit steep I thought, so I went on Confused.com, put in my details and got a quote through Barclays for £275!

Then my mum happened to mention that her renewal was £493, so I got her renewal details, whacked them into confused.com and hey presto, £199.

We all shop around for car insurance, but how many of us do the same for home insurance?

Anyway, between us we have saved £576 and it took about 30 minutes work.

Insurance in general appears to be a complete lottery from a price perspective with every company having wildly varying rates year to year.

This year I'm insured with Sainsbury's who beat everyone else by 50% (£200 Home and Contents).

Always pays to shop around.

We were with Direct Line then the renewal came through with a £100 increase. I rang them up and asked why the rise? "You do not qualify for the new business discount" was the reply. I told them "it sounds like your more interested in new business than keeping current customers happy" nothing said was the loud reply . My reply "you are the weakest link goodbye".

It should be an absolute given as I've mentioned on another thread. Loads of companies largely exist due to the habits of the complacent or lazy.

car and home insurance are two things im always trying to scour lower prices for. ok car insurance i may struggle due to lack of experience, but it does my head in when you get quotes for £4-500 for b&c cover, then another company offer the same for £200-250

as im with ecar, i think i get a discount for home insurance. worth a punt.
