Default A little piece of Insanity

Just been told by my boss that the people who work (well... when they're not on strike) at the Work and Pensions building opposite have been told that they are not allowed to use the outside smoking area any more.

There's a partially enclosed (got a roof) structure that they normally cower under and they can no longer use it.

The reason? Apparently there is concern that the other smokers will be exposed to passive smoking from the OTHER smokers!!

Good, smoking should be banned completely!

Where I work you have to pretty much wade through *** butts to get to the front door, despite the company providing special smoking bins. Just sums up the mentality and arrogance of your average smoker.

But are you talking about putting smokers heads on pikes or public-sector workers' heads on pikes?

That's the funniest thing about smoking ban. Most smoking shelters are enclosed on 3 sides or more so you can't smoke in them.

The British are a supine, spineless bunch . .Forward - together as one . . . But very little chance of that revolution happening I'm afraid . .Only thing to note is that in France, when they introduced speed cameras, the citizens has a mass revolt and took them down . . .Little chance of that happening here . . Why is that . . Smoking ban, speed cameras, erosion of civil liberties . . All seem to be accepted without a murmur . . .Question is . .Why??

speed cameras are popping up like a rash here too, and this year saw the introduction of smoking ban for public places. France aint all it used to be regarding public protests.

I completely agree.

By the way - how much extra would you like to be taxed to cover the shortfall in goverment income as a result of abolishing the heavily taxed smoking trade?

NIMBY?

Don't think this thread is supposed to be so much about smoking as the attitude of the PC managers who have banned use of the area and for the ridiculous reason that they have given. This is the sort of doublespeak that Orwell was on about and we will see more of this if the PC Plonkers achieve more control over us all.

I don't smoke, but I find it odd that staff here (the council) aren't allowed to smoke in the car park at the back (which isn't council owned), but the staff from the restaurant downstairs are

The MD of the company where MrsD used to work got so p!ssed off with his staff doing this that he decided to classify smoking anywhere on company premises (including the car park) as punishable with a written warning

A friend of mine made me laugh.. They had a smoking shelter outside the office that they had used for years.. After the ban the shelter was deemed illegal because it had too many sides! lol..

We have that rule here - you aren't allowed to smoke on any company premises, including company cars or even your own when used on company business!
