Not sure how much money closing stores saves. After all they'll still have the rent to pay, and after 3 months the business rates.
So all they'll be saving is the staff costs and heating and lighting. Well its spring so they can turn off the heating anyway!

anyone got a link to this.
We supply them "quite a lot of kit" on account. It'd hurt if they go pop.
Damage limitation time.

Businesses like JJB have been falling over for years.
High volume, low margin, multiple outlet = very unstable with even the slightest shift in consumer demand.
Not saying the country isn't bankrupt, mind you, but something like a failure of JJB isn't evidence in its own right

So it's the fault of JJB that they offer the same goods cheaper and people then buy them?
It's the customer who drives the markets so if independents have closed down it's the fault of the customer not the retailer.

It's fairly obvious that a huge company will be able to provide cheaper goods for a variety of reasons. Just like Tesco are cheaper than a traditional shop. It doesn't make it particularly ethical in some cases though.
Another thing JJB did was open an out of town shop with free parking, again, smaller shops can't compete with this.
If they make it work, good luck to them, but I don't see why we should all be shedding any tears when it all goes wrong.
Perhaps the fact that they've been undercutting the opposition, is why they're going bust!

Any idea which stores are being axed?
I need some new trainers and want a bargain... and maybe a golf club or 2

Businesses expand, businesses contract. It's the usual cycle surely, not exactly them 'in trouble'. Just more sensationalism on here ala people queueing outside Northern Rock.
Well done Pete.

The shop in Bracknell was shut and almost empty when I was in town on monday I guess this is the reason why.
They did sell mostly chav tat but it was the only sports shop in Bracknell town centre so it should have had no problems and Bracknell has plenty of chavs.

Was just in Altrincham, the one there is closed, looked like it had just happened as there were JJB staff there, do feel sorry for them.
Definite ill wind blowing down the high street at the moment, stuff is very cheap, electronics, clothes etc, however I just filled my wife's Galaxy diesel and it cost £71.31 !!! which is just plain wrong.
