Who says the police aren't doing their job
My missus was parked outside work on saturday morning.
When she comes out she has an infringement notice under the wiper. Her number plate has an extra space between two of the digits . it has the correct font just an extra spacing.
Obviously the officer(s) were driving past and decided a fixed penalty was in order. Nice to see them clamping down on all crime.
She has been worried in the past when she has had a police car behind her but having never had anything said to her she left the plates on.
Morale of the story - its not worth £30 to make your initials stand out on your plates.
Keep up the good work lads and lasses

To be honest nothing P****s me off more than seeing all the number plates around my area (Bradford,Leeds etc) that have been modded to change the way a plate looks (S44K XX) with screws in the plate to make Sh4K XX If you want a plate with your name or initials buy one from DVLA etc and don't moan if you are copped and fined for moving things around.
That said at least you took it on the chin with a grimace

If you do something that you know could land you a fine (regardless of whether you agree with the rule or not) then if you do it and get a fine, then you really have not got anyone, or anything to blame other than yourself.

I saw the police out again today using their scamera
6 yes 6 officers standing round waiting at the end of a Dual carriageway for someone to slip up !
I shook my head at them as I passed ... GO SIT OUTSIDE A SCHOOL if you have to sit somewhere !!!
Should be about safety not cash...

There shouldnt be a fine, first time offenders should get a warning, but no, coppers are only there to make money now, not tackle real crime!

Totally agree. The 'crime' isn't serious enough, if you like, to warrant points, just a fine. So a fair way of dealing with such matters would be a warning. Or perhaps, go one step further, give a warning, but also attach a producer, whereby, said criminal has x amount of days to put the plate to the recommended standard, and get the OK. Will still be cheaper than the fine, and ultimately, unless you want countless fines, that would be necessary anyway.

However, my glass is half-full today so I reckon the plod just needs to get a grip and crack down on real criminals rather than regular citizens (in taxed and insured) vehicles who have done something that at worst could be described as 'slightly naughty'.

no problem at all. as i said keep up the good work.i have nothing but praise for them - especially since they cought one of the armed robbers who took my scoob.
i've been pulled before and got warned for mine. i took on board the warning and had some spare cash to buy replacements.
it was more of a "heads up" post that our protectors are also targetting empty parked cars and are not just pulling over cars being driven through "traps".
yes, technically it is a crime, yes she will do the time.its a pity she wasnt pulled over by them as she could have shown them the new "legally spaced" plates in the boot waiting for me to get them drilled before fitting.
if only we were all as perfect as you we wouldnt need a police force

Its a nice easy way to keep up with the targets with the minimum of paperwork and bother.
There once was a time when you would just get a warning for such a minor infringement, if you ignored it then its fair enough to fine you.

Hang about.
We all know if the police feel like it they can fine us for having illegal plates.
And its somehow the polices fault that we have decided to chance our arm and get caught?

People really shouldn't mess about with their number plates, sometimes it's quite difficult to tell what the registration should be. Imagine how you would feel if someone twatted into you and drove off and you couldn't work out the registration? Sometimes you may not know the model of the car, and colour is a very perceptive thing, but the registration will always get your man (crooks notwithstanding who use false plates of course ).
That said, I think it was very harsh of her to get a fine for that, should have been just told to produce her documents and then prove she had had it put right within 7 days like some other minor offences.
Private plates are sooooooooo passé though
Geezer

Yes because ten years ago there was no fine attached to this "crime", you got a 7 day ticket to sort it out, so which numpty decided it was worth a fine all of a sudden?

If this was the case (I thought it was always at the officers discretion) then it is probably a bit harsh.

I'm sure you realise why this annoys most people ... number plate incorrectly spaced albeit that it still reads as it should = £30 fine. Some thug stamps on a member of the publics head & kills him or perhaps causes brain damage = a couple of years in jail. It certainly annoys the hell out of me ...

yes, its just a nice way to keep up with the targets i.e the minimum of paperwork and hassle.
There was once a time when you would get a smack on the wrists for a minor infringement, and if you ignored it then its tough tittie for you.
