Default Peter Green (Guitarist)

Spent a very pleasant hour on You Tube listening to some bluesy stuff including my old favourite Peter Green. Hadn't heard this for years but you might enjoy if you are like minded?

Saw Pete play at the Redcar Bowl in '98 when Cozy Powel was with them.
Was lucky enough to be right at the front - practically sat on the stage with Pete only about six foot away. He was absolutely amazing to watch..

But AFAIK Green went into drugs turbo mode in the 70s and that had a bad effect. I saw him on a TV show very briefly about 10 (?) years ago and he was bloated and his playing style was so different. Not a patch on his early stuff. But good for him if he is still doing well. Mayall must be getting on a bit now!!

Always surprises me when some 'younguns' say of these classics, 'oh, they did the original!'

Yep. Marvellous.
Little known fact - Peter Green gave Gary Moore his guitar that he played all those early Fleetwood Mac hits on (like Albatross, green manalishi, Oh well etc) and that was what Moore used to record Blues for Greeny with. In his prime PG would have wiped the floor with GM, but then GM would be the first to admit it. Peter Green's tragedy was getting hooked on drugs and then succumbing to paranoid schizophrenia . Splinter group playwed when he was well enough but he was a shadow of his former self, unfortunately.

Moore reputedly sold that 1959 Gibson Les Paul for a million dollars, but its value may be closer to 2 million nowadays.

Found a quote (Wiki) from B B King about Peter as follows: -

Green inspired B. B. King to say, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats."

Now if your a white British blues guitarist that quote looks pretty good on your CV

Oh yeah, BB King. Went to his last UK concert in Bournemouth. He was supported there by Gary Moore. What a fantastic night that was.

Although I'm a big Peter Green fan I didn't know so much about the Gary Moore connection and knew none of the stuff about the guitar. So thanks chaps for all the info

It's all inspired me to learn a bit more and I ordered this from Amazon so could be interesting. Bacon, Tony. Electric Guitars:The Illustrated Encyclopedia. Anyone got this?

I can't play the guitar but my son can so I have been asking him how Green holds on to those long notes on The Supernatural. He is going to have a go but he thinks Feedback or an e-bow. Any ideas?

There is also some fascinating stuff in Related Videos including a King/Clapton version with Phil Collins on drums!

"Need your Love......" was my favourite song when I was the age my boy is now, if you see what I mean. And he really appreciates it so that makes me feel good - aaaagh. Thing is it hasn't dated at all. Sadly I have d
