Most likely somewhere like Peru or Ecuador. There are pretty whacked airports around there.

It's Honduras, I went there about 5 years ago - don't remember it being that bad from on board.

Not quite as tricky as the "bent beam" approach into the southerly runway at Kai Tak in Hong Kong. That was well populated with buildings on the last part and you must not start the final right turn too late or you would be dangerously close to a hill almost in line with the runway with a big chequer board on the top. The Kai Tak runway was a bit unforgiving if you got it wrong since the sea ran along one side of it-all gone now because of the new airport I imagine.

I used to enjoy it though because the VC10 was an excellent handling machine and it was a bit of a "hooligan" approach which I enjoyed.

Hairy approaches!

Been to the places a couple of times, found out that the approaches come with "Auto-Swear", 'cause when the weather is crap, you will always hear a "f**k!" and "holy ****!" amongst others!

We flew to Oz with Cathay about six months before they shut Kai Tak, I wanted to go before they closed it down because I didn't believe some of the stories you heard

Definitely all true

From the roof of our hotel you were looking down on the 747s on final approach
