Default Whats the latest on iPhones

I've been playing with my sons iTouch and I am well impressed with it, can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy an iPhone but not on contract to 02 without any issues with updates/phone locking up etc. Are there any new models coming out in the near future and will it be available to other networks.

Mog, yes you can go out and buy the latest version of the iPhone and unlock it to any network, but, there will always be issues with updates. In the past it's just been a case of not updating immediately, no great issue. This of course could change and you'll simply be stuck on the last cracked update, again not that much of an issue as the current version is nothing short of stunning.

Thanks Jack, do you know the best place to buy a un-contracted iphone or is it just cheaper to buy on contract and unlock????

Walk in the shop, buy one, take it home, run this program ZiPhone's Blog * one button does it all.

* There are other programs but that one's worked well for me.

Looks brilliant! A mate of mine has one and was chuffed to bits showing off all the features such as the Sat Nav linked to the phone address book. He was less chuffed to admit typical battery life of 24 hours between charges for him, reducing to just a few hours if playing vids. That just wouldn't be acceptable for my mobile phone to be honest.

The killer convergence device is here, but the battery technology isn't quite.

Your mate must have a duff one! Although I can't say I play a lot of video, I use mine constantly either for internet stuff, phone or music and don't get any less than 24 hours and often more than 72, which suits me as I'm not often away from a laptop or PC for longer than that.

As an example: Yesterday I checked and responded to email and browsed various websites in the morning whilst I had wi-fi, waited for then rode a bus for 5 hours whilst listening to music and a book, checked my email and web sites when I got to the next hotel and took a few calls in between. I plugged it back into my laptop this morning and it wasn't complaining of low battery.

[pedantic]Actually, its an iphone[/pedantic]

I know what you mean though, I've had phones that have so many 'features' that it runs out battery so quickly, it makes you wonder why you brought it.

Mobile phones are for ringing people. Having text message's is also sometimes handy. The rest of it is just gimmick's to get people to buy them every year.

No **** sherlock, the question was about poor battery life whilst using video, regardless of whether it's primary use is a phone or not, which you seem to be having trouble grasping.

now now children

I think, to be fair, any of the models on the market, be it an iphone or nokia/sony etc that has video functions on the phone, will suffer from poor battery life. You cant really compare models in terms of battery life if the main use (or one of them) will be video features.
