G0-Karting advice and help
Hi all.
Just wondered if anyone can shed some light into some advice on a go-kart day.
None of us have been before, and dont really know whats the best way and what type of race to do.
There are 12 of us going, and all ages and speeds.
What we dont want is out of 12 people, 4 get knocked out straight away only doing a few laps because they are naturally slower, where as everyone else gets to do many more.
Were just after something where we all get to do about the same and just have a laugh. We dont need an overall winner.
We have looked at a few local circuits, Campbell over Eastbourne, Brighton karting nation, and Gosport Team sport.
But we have no idea whats best value, and need to book soon as its Marks (sportwagon) 20th in mid April. So was looking at booking for then, sort of 18th(Friday all day) really.
Thanks very much
Tony

If there are enough of you you should be able to find somewhere where you can book by time. My local circuit does 15 minute chunks and 30 mins is normally about right.
Having done some 24 hour karting I'd certainly not advise a long stint if you've not done it before as you'll ache like hell the next day from the vibrations

You want to do an 'endurance' race. They are normally about 2 hours long. You will get an hour or so of practice beforehand.
Normally uses teams of 4, with up to about 8 teams, so you will be competing against your mates and other people you don't know. It's a real good laugh, everyone gets the same amount of tracktime and practice. You will have to refuel etc.
Some outdoors ones i have done make you come in and do a tyre swap as well which is a good laugh.

One of the best ones I have done was with a few members from here and the MLR forum
3 sessions, and the top few from each session went into a final round for , well a final
Warrington is always good too, you all have 5 races to run, each race you start from a different grid position till you have covered all 5 grid slots, then the people with the most points go through to a final (it maybe 6 positions depending on the final number of people)

as for tips, i'm an utter novice, but a light touch on the brakes is very usefull, you can lock up before you know it. balance the throttle rather than 'on/off' to keep revs up. power to weight is a big key so a big pooh before the race is a good idea
great fun, enjoy

Another vote for an endurance race. Works well as everyone gets an equal chance to drive You just have to decide if you want any fast teams, or if you are going to have mixed ability teams that all try to take each other on.

Top tip: watch the brakes in the wet if outside. Slick tyres and brakes = bad. Use light throttle to gain traction around the corners.
As said before endurance is good for mixed skills as everyone gets a crack. Make sure you go to ones that offer per lap timing as then people can race themselves so to speak and improve their times.
