Default Do we as a country make look after our animals better than our kids?

Another story...

Two men have been arrested after the death of a two-year-old boy who is thought to have accidentally overdosed on his father’s methadone.
Police confirmed yesterday that a 30-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of neglect. Another man, 33, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug. Both have been freed pending further inquiries.
Brandon Davis was rushed to hospital along with his two brothers, Lewis, aged 3, and Kyle, aged 4 months, after they mistakenly swallowed the heroin substitute.
The eldest child remains in a stable condition, while the youngest is thought to be staying in hospital for precautionary checks.
Doctors were unable to save Brandon, after emergency services were called to an address in Walkers Heath, Birmingham, last Tuesday.

Two men held as Brandon Davis dies from overdose of methadone - Times Online

Five people have been charged with animal cruelty over the discovery of scores of neglected horses, ponies and donkeys on a Buckinghamshire farm.

for every child that dies from neglect there are probably 100 dogs, so I'd say no.

What a terrible thing to happen, poor kids.

There was some talk of monitoring drug addicts at home with CCTV but was shot down as it could be construed as breaching the human rights of the addicts/family.

Not too sure if kids should be left with parents addicted to heroin or indeed any class A's, i am sure risk assesments are run, etc. and tbh there could be 1000's or kids who would suddenly need fostering/care places.

I understand that methadone is a substitute for heroin and can be part of a programe to get people off of 'H' but perhaps enforced residential treatment is the answer, not in the community and at home where stupid incidents like this can and do happen.

no easy answer i suppose.

Oh and i guess is a caring breeder of dogs was in a situation where an addict came to them asking for a dog then they would refuse them, however it is their right to have kids and do what they want - or so it seems.

shame

I'm quite surprised they were allowed to live with a drug addict in the first place! They obviously weren't being monitored correctly by Social Services.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

NSPCC adverts: asks for £2 a month.

RSPCA adverts: asks for £3 a month.

They must GET what they ask for, so I'd say yes, we do look after/care about animals more than we do our children

Your right...they prefer to open the fridge grab a tin of beer, open it and drink it.

Well...That's what mine used to do, little bugger

I wonder if there is a way to infiltrate the UK's drug supply and lace them with chemicles that make users sterile? Won't help in teh short term, but in the long term it could save a hell of alot of future hassle.

It will cost more in the long run, they'll all be fighting for IVF on the NHS

My dog could open the door to the room, turn on the fire and make some toast to eat it with !

Unless of course you told her to, in that case she can't even sit
