Buying a vehicle that's been in accident?
A friend has just bought a car that has been in a minor shunt. The only reason he found out was through meeting a previous owner. The damage was only cosmetic, so no worries regarding it's safety / handling etc.
Is the law still the same in that someone only has to tell you it's been in a shunt if you actually ask?
TIA

A direct question should deserve a direct answer - but unless put in writing it means nowt.
The car has had a minor shunt - lots have - some even before they get to the showroom!
So your friend should just get on and enjoy the car.

if asked, the seller has to tell the truth, private or a dealer.
A dealer must give out details of accidents in all cases if they are recorded with the register, whether you ask or not.
