Children to take oath of allegiance.

Children to take oath of allegiance.
I think it's probably a good idea to instill virtue and patriotism into children. The idea has it's critics and detractors but pledging allegiance to Queen and Country and restoring some good old fashioned values isn't a bad thing.

I do not have a problem with the queen or manarchy as such (well some of them are complete pr@ts) and they are good for tourism. Just not sure in modern times they are that relevant in this case...

Totally bonkers.
People will just go through the motions, and that is if you can get them to the ceremony at all. Values come from a lot more than standing in a hall uttering a few words. It is not going to have any impact on the people you are wanting to change.

They do like papering over the cracks don't they
Why don't we just go back to educating them properly in the first place, and instill a real sense of respect into them from an early age
Oh, silly me That would then be paramount to an admission that the great Labour comprehensive education 'experiment' is a failure

I think its something that should have been introduced a very long time ago. Many of the problems with British society now come from the fact that everyone is out for their own ends, and don't see themselves as part of something larger and more important than just "Them".
We're social creatures but it seems to me that the social conscience part of us has been forgotten in favour of individual rights and needs; anything that engenders a feeling of belonging to something "bigger" in our society is a good thing. IMO.

But what Country?
You will have the Scots swearing allegance to Scotland (nothing new, we do it at every given opportunity when drink is involved )
The English swearing allegance to England and the Welsh and Irish likewise.
Talk about striking a divide?
The problem is, and its about time someone figured this out, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Channel Islands is not just England.

no, the idea was that the people in Scotland pledge an allegiance to their English Queen. The interviewer on the radio soon pointed out how short sited that was going to be
