Caring government?
So our caring government want to make sure that New homes 'must cater for ageing'!
Aw, bless, what a nice bunch of folks they are I mean, they aren't going to actually do anything, they are simply going to force builders to do their dirty work for them. OK, this will almost certainly put up the price of new homes thus making it even harder for first-time buyers to get on the ladder; oh, and will bring a a shed-load of extra revenue in the form of VAT and stamp duty - but if it makes things just a little bit better for "the older generation", then it will all be worth it :fluffy-bunny-icon:
Funny that, coming from the same government who is happy to allow the cost of gas and electricity to increase so that "old folk" can't afford to heat their homes; and are happy to imprison pensioners who can't afford to pay their council taxes as they rise many times the rate of inflation.
How do Labour MPs sleep at night?

Its nothing new: Already the NHBC implemented guidelines to new houses a number of years ago with regard to disabled home owners (which obviously would cover the aged).
These included; limited height of front door from the ground (i.e only one or two steps). Lowering the height of door handles, raising the height of floor level electrical and phone sockets. And lowering the height of wall mounted light switches.
Its only basic things, moving it a little further can do no harm. But I bet it wasn't the governments's idea...the NHBC has more say in the matter on a house-builder's level.
Constraints and regs over energy efficiency are far more burdening to the builder.....espacially with this current propagander going about over CO2...
Just think, Suppliers will have to increase energy prices to "help stop climate change". Great....lets further screw the old folk who already can't afford the bills as it is.
Caring goverenment, indeed. <Aims the cross-hair on the scope of a sniper rifle at Brown's forehead, and gently squeezes the trigger. Then checks the notepad beside me, containing a long list of politicians on the hit list - including our "middle-east Envoy">

It should not make that much difference to house prices because in the main it is setting a standard to make everything more convenient which will benefit everyone let alone elderly people. Of course there should be concern for the elderly, quite unnecessary to mock that idea,as we will all probably appreciate when we are in that position. Nothing to do with fluffy bunny icons to my mind.
I am also in agreement with Shark Man since this will as ever be yet another attempt to show a so called initiative in order to impress us all to try to take our attention away from the fact that it is all falling about their ears!
