I think someone in the company had a sense of humour failure on this one. I'd have enjoyed the ride

What has inverted got to do with it? It was a low level fly-by, no inversion?
Anything from £40k ( New LO-CO Capt ) to 120k ( Senior BA 747 Capt )

Prehaps he should have had a chat to "Leslie",
Im sure a short pass to a vertical climb would have been far better

Brand new 777? It would be rude not to....its the equivelent to doing doughnuts in a brand new Veyron
7/10 for effort:
An inverted flypast at 30ft would have been a bit more daring

Pah. Should have done it one of those A380 things.
Mind you, as mentioned above, Branson will probably employ him to do it in one of his when he gets one.

Very surprised at what is an over-reaction. That really is not dangerous just after a runway approach. His mistake was not to get authorisation to do it.
On my Squadron only wimps flew much above 50 feet anyway!

That was on the Boeing plant field wasn't it? I'm sure they've seen a LOT worse there
I'm sure all aboard enjoyed it, bit mean to fire him

Apparently most airlines do a lypast when picking up new aircraft from Boeing, and yes it seems as if he is being fired for doing it without authorisation, which apparently should have come from the Hong Kong Aviation Authority who complained to Cathay Pacific.
He is also not too popular with other pilots at Cathay because he was instrumental in getting rid of a large number of them a few years ago.
