Sky Plus box as a freeview box
A friend of mine from down south has had Virgin TV fitted and has given me their old Sky Plus box, a Pace TDS470N. I used to have Sky a while back so still have the dish and all the connections & have hooked it all up and it works fine. The only problem is that the programme guide has things like BBC1 West and ITV West and I wondered if there was a way I could alter it so my local region channels appear at the top.

No, I can't record things unfortunately but I can pause / rewind live TV which is pretty useful. Also I seem to able to access channels which aren't a part of the Sky Freesat lineup though I don't know how long that will last since the subscription has been cancelled.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out

Well its the first day of the month and it seems the card subscription has expired & I can't view any channels now !
Other than buying a Freesat card from Sky, is there any other way to enable channels, or perhaps some way to *ahem* reverse engineer the box ?

It would also be worth forcing a software update on the box to ensure it has the very latest. Easy to do - keep TV on, turn the Sky box off, then unplug the power lead at the back of the box. Then, press and hold the backup button on the box (not the remote) and while keeping it in, plug in the power and keep the button in until all the lights come on.
Then you should see, if connected via AV, a message saying it is updating the system and could take up to 10 minutes.
Worth doing on all boxes in fact every now and then, as it seems hit and miss at times.
