When you take out a home insurance policy how long is it before you can make a claim?

As long as it takes to need to make a legitimate claim

Serious though, they all have conditional periods, which can vary, so worth checking with your individual policy.

technicaly I think you can claim relativley straight away providing you can prove that everything was ok before you took out the policyotherwise ti would look a little suspect taking out a policy and claiming straight away, they may ask why did you leave your last insurer, did you make any claims with them and so on they may even send round their assessor who will chain you up and whip you until you submit {or maybe thats just a dream I had}
