EU oversees Kosovo independence
...Paving the way for Kosovo to join the European union, this a Country with 40% unemployment and officially Europe's highest birth rate and lowest gdp . WTF happened to the golden economic rules that nations had to meet before joining the EU.
How ironic that Russia is one of the worlds fastest growing economies after shedding these deadwood states they fought so hard to keep hold of

Yip, the EU overseeing Kosovan independence is quite a big jump away from Kosovo joining the EU, in all sorts of ways - not just economically, but bureaucratically and politically.
Kosovan independence is a political hot potato as it is, with the Serbs feeling very aggrieved with the perceived injustice against them by the wider international community - Kosovan independence is only going to exacerbate that, and the idea of Kosovo being given membership to the EU would give them a stroke.
The only thing that annoys me a little is how the press makes the Kosovans out to be pure and innocent little ***** of fluffy fun - when they were just as much arseholes as the Serbs were in the later Serb/Albanian conflicts. I think the Serb PR machine fell down because they were the biggest arseholes during the Yugoslav civil war - but still....

It did take years for Poland to join the EU 6 years (they became full members in 2004).
Ulimately Kosovo is a nation of less than 2 million people, so even if they joined tomorrow (which of course they can't) their impact in the EU would be tiny.
Another reason that they cannot join anytime soon is that there are several EU countries refusing to recognise Kosovo as an independant nation

I think you've put 2 & 2 together and come up with a number that isn't 4 matey. We've had troops in Kosovo for years, their numbers were increased prior to the declaration because of fears of unrest.
