Mobile Valeting
Some new valeting company handed out some leaflets at work for mobile valeting..
My colleague decided to give them a go and asked them to valet his dark blue 55 plate beamer; his car did not have a mark on it before it was valeted...
anyhow, I decided I would get my car done as it was not very dirty, but needed a good clean inside.
The young guy turns up on sat morning in an old car and trailer, so at this point I’m very weary about, but after seeing he has all the stuff (water tanks, generator / hoover etc) I decided to let him loose
My colleague tells me they are ready after 3 hrs, so I tell him i'll be out in a minute.
When I go out, my colleague is shouting big time at this bloke telling him our he'd ruined his car.
I looked at mine and see it's streaky as hell with polish still in all the gaps, and can still see dirt, my colleague then tells me, that the young lad declared to him that he had run out of water and washed my car with polish
I see that luckily my car has no damage, apart from it now needs another valet to undo the mess he has created.
I look at my colleague’s car and it's scratched all over, including a big gouge on the passenger door, he was feckin furious.
pic of his gleaming valted car..
Nice Clean wheels
My clean rear end

I don't trust mobile valeters. I have had it done, and their job was worse than mine! TBH, I have taken it to a firm, getting it washed and polished by four guys in badged overalls for two hours; while I had to kill time by browsing some shops. Even they left some stubborn markings on my wind screen that took ages to get rid off. I think that there are lot of people setting themselves up as mobile valeters. I wonder if there is any provision of some kind of body that governs or registers them, so that we can make out the difference between a cowboy and a real professional.

I'd never let anyone else clean my car bar a few 'detailers' that I know are very capable at what they do. This is the reason why.
I really don't think theres an alternative to either doing it yourself, or paying quite a large sum of money to a professional.
I wonder what the condition of your paint is now underneath that "polish wash"... I hope you beat him to death. I would have wanted to.

When it comes to valeters it's best to go by word of mouth, a mate has just started a valeting business so i let him give her a was and for £6 i wasn't going to argue.
I was quite surprised, he did a very good job and hardly missed anything, could have used a better shampoo as the colour and shine wasn't as deep but still very good.
I don't blame the guy for being furious, id have been livid myself.
But as the others have said, you can't beat doing it yourself.

i dont ever pay for anything i can do myself.
we have one who comes to work charges #15 and hes always busy,
seems to do a good job, but like i saw id rather do it myself, thats how you spot the little problems that appear on cars from time to time

I wouldn't let anyone without a very good reputation near my car Take a look at THIS ARTICLE where a mate of mine restores an Aston DB7 after the [slightly moronic more money than sense] owner has let a mobile numpty clean his car for 18 months or so. MY CAR's on there too

i dont have a bus so i have to use one sometimes,
i do watch telly
but i get of my **** and clean my own car, house windows, cut my own grass, clear my own gutters. i wont pay for someone to do those sort of jobs

I would and do - window cleaner charges EUR 17 do do all outside panes once a month (Dutch houses have lots of glass). Car wash costs Eur 10 for a pukka job with polishing, drying incl. spotless alloys. Automated 60 metre conveyer, so my boy loves the experience too. Petrol there and back is paid for.
Both the above are just too cheap to bother doing it myself

would be intrested to know how much the OP was charged, for what looks like a basic exterior mini valet ??
not a personal dig, but people love to complain about this kind of thing, but dont want to pay the money to have it done properly!?!?!?!
the "damage" can or could be explained (ignore the fact that the chap said he ran out of water = pretty much means he is a ****tard anyway and probably "did" the damage) , it could be nothing to do with the chap, nobody inspects a car before its cleaned and always thinks its been damaged by the cleaner when inspecting it afterwards "because it was not there before" (probably because it was under a thick layer of dirt mate)
its not a "full" valet, you are not paying "decent money", you pays your cash and takes your chances with an "unknown" to be honest!
you should have had an outline of what was going to be done, maybe a flyer or such, did it mention that the wheels were getting a 100% clean? or was it just a wash?
you would not belive how many car traders i have calling in, wanting "full" valets done "properly" "as the lads around the corner miss loads out and make them look crap"
"thats because you are paying pennies for the work mate"
they then leave in a huff because we are twice the price as the clowns around the corner and we wont be spending 4 hours cleaning a car for them for pennies, and IMO the price of our "full"s needs to go up another £20 or so IMHO anyway to make them worthwhile to me.
