the idiocy of it, gtg there tomorrow for a 1 hour meeting. Naturally I don't want to take any local currency cos any change will end up unspendable and importantly unclaimable on expenses.

Need to get a taxi from airport to TechnoParc du pays de Gex and back again. Do the taxis take credit cards? What is the likely cost?

dont think they do, there are a load of cashpoints though. maybe worth taking a small amount from there, taxi shouldnt be more than 40 francs top (~£20).

i was there last month, plenty of lovely snow in the surrounding mountains too.

forgot to mention, i think as on the cross channel ferries there is a machine somewhere in the airport where you can change up coins too.

Can you not get say £50 at a ForEx kiosk at the airport, get receipts and buyback and then charge the lot back on expenses? I know we can do this at our place but you can only ask. I've also only ever had taxis ordered for me and never had to pay when I've gone to Geneva.

I travel around Europe quite a lot - not a huge amount in Switzerland though - and hardly ever have local currency... just relying on a credit card. Most European taxis take them these days - and are significantly better geared up for it than we are.

You'll probably get a nice E-class with the taxi meter discretely installed in the rear-view mirror - very cool and convenient when the taxi operator needs to sell the Merc for the same price he bought it for in 3 years time!

So - I wouldn't worry about it, just go armed with plastic!

The receipts must be signed in blood to be paid. Tight is not the half of it.

Thanks all, going to wing the CC, and use a local cash point if I have to.

Jesus, all the way to Geneva for a 1hr meeting!

I had to drive to Runcorn and back (from Swindon) for a 2hr meeting yesterday and I thought that was silly!

Still, it's "the way of the contractor".

Heck, I've been to Johannesburg and back (again, from Swindon) just to take someone to dinner!

Tomorrow I've got a stressful day taking the train from Swindon into the West End just to take a bunch of folks for a nice lunch somewhere...

Still, it's the "way of the sales director".

LOL.... yeah, been there, done that... catching any flight that starts with an 06 or 07 isn't fun, especially when they don't bother opening security until 0630!

I'll have a more gentle start to the day, as I take an "off peak" First Great Western cattle-truck in for a midday snack!

Have a nice day Matt!

I'm sure I will. Was in Reading yesterday and enjoyed the stand home, at least I stood in between First Class, had some satisfaction opening the door every couple of minutes to annoy the toffs

Taxis from the airport don't take credit cards, cost is likely to be around 50 swiss francs - 20 quid to you. The Technoparc is a stone's throw from me, oh and say hello to my lawyer whilst you're in the vicinity

You might get a nasty surprise and find that watches outside of the duty-free might cost you more than in the UK!

That must be new then as they didn't last time I was in one (Xmas). Euros you can get at the airport no problem. Come out of arrivals turn left and there's a bank about 20 metres away.

Well for the record, one taxi in about 30 took Visa. I got some Euros, didn't manage to spend them all so the rest will have to wait till holiday time

Anyone connected with a Taxi only spoke French. I could of got by in German but my French is limited to "Oui" and flaying my arms around in a way only foreigners do. Ah well, I got home in one piece
