Default A car that can run only on air - no seriously!

Made by a Frenchman, and set to be launched within a year. At a cost of only £2,500

BBC Media Player

Something tells me this is just a load of hot air. I really don't see how you can run a car on compressed air

Still takes energy to compress the air in the first place lol
To get them to a usable stage im sure it would get expensive and non energy efficient

"A petrol burner heats the air to expand it..."

I was wondering how long it would be before someone pointed out that to compress air requires energy

I suppose, the Frenchman may argue that as France is heavily nuclear powered then if the air is compressed using electricity it is reasonably clean power. No such argument can be applied to us though.

A steam engine is just compressed water vapour. So not exactly a new idea.

Also, 20p at your local petrol station to fill up sounds promising (although, knowing how feeble the compressor is, it'll take forever ), although, the local Shell is free

Got to be a go-er long time. Surely it could use the same principle as compressing air like a jet engine .....if it could compress air whilst on the go then it would never need to stop for fuel.
I would assume though that the car giants will take it over and scrap the idea, plenty of oil left.
