Sony V3000 lcd hdtv prices?
Have pretty much decided on getting a new sony v3000 40" lcd, unless anyone can recommend anything better at the mo.
Seen them advertised on the net for anything between £800 - £1200.
Would ideally like to walk into a shop and bring it home, rather than order online and wait.
Does anyone know if any largish retailers can do a good deal on this?

The best advice is usually to find the cheapest retailer in your area with the set in stock, available today and for the lowest possible price. Then contact your nearest John Lewis store and ask them to price-match it. they will contact whoever you quote to verify price and availability, then supply you with a deal code which you can take to the store and collect at the agreed price, benefitting from their free, excellent, 5 year warranty. Being down in Kernow you're a bit isolated from the major cities (blessing) where you'd benefit from a glut of discount stores to help drive the price down, unless you were prepared to travel to maybe Bristol or the Brum area.
Personally, I prefer plasma, and I'd put my money into a PZ70. You say you don't want to wait for delivery, but S&V are very good, quick and deliver free nationwide....V3000 Best price from Google Shopping is IRO £790, maybe plus del ???

I looked at the v3000 while looking for a TV over the last month or so..
Personally i thought the picture wasnt very good at all..I only saw the picture on SD images, but it looked undefined and washed out.It could have been in the TV set up,but also could be down to the TV's relatively low contrast ratio and brightness...
As Corrado says, you wont go far wrong with the PZ70..These are excellent, especially if you are going to fully use a HD source. If your not, maybe the PX70,this will save you around £300..
I ended up buying the PX 70 in the end,and i have to say the picture is supurb.JL price matched for me and i got free delivery and 5 yrs warranty..
Again,as corrado says, plasma is generally better at these larger sizes..Personally i have not seen an LCD over 37" that was as good as plasma at the same price/size.
Although i did see a beautiful Bravia 46" LCD that was using a blueray player and it looked pretty stunning,it was £3000 though.!!
Good luck in your search.

you could try looking on pricerunner, or pricegrabber. Price including standard delivery is from £768. Some will do next day delivery too (for a small delivery charge).
It used to be the case that plasma was better than lcd for gaming but the latest lcd televisions (Sony "X" series for example) are just as good as any plasma.

As long as you run the screen in a plasma should be fine, you may get some retention but that tends to go after a short while. I have been looking for several months now and narrrowed it down to the PZ or the V or W3000. There are some issues the W at the moment but the V seems fault free.
Fatfellascoob - unless the LCD has been set up correctly the picture may not be great, were did you see it?

Well, went shopping today but didnt really see anything better than the V3000. Plymouth probably isnt the best place to go i guess.
Saw the V3000 in ETS and Currys at £1100+
Might have another look on the AV forums and try some of the websites, £300+ saving isnt to be sniffed at for having to wait a couple of days.
Will try pricerunner/grabber in a minute.
Thanks for your help so far guys

I just bought a Sony 970 FV/HDD/DVDR from them. It was a couple of weeks from placing the order when I sent a nudge email to them asking where it was, but it arrived two days after, converted for multi-region and with 2 free DVD's. Slow, but seem trustworthy.

T5olf..
Seen many LCD'd on my travels...IMHO the like for like plasma/LCD,the plasma seems to win every time.
40"+ LCD's never seem to good to me,apart from the Bravia i mentioned.
Maybe im not looking at the right stuff..But if you want a 42" screen at under a grand, the LCD's dont seem to compare..
Boro...After your look around today, what other TV's did you see???
