Northerners lose all claim to being "tough"
BBC NEWS | England | Motorists stranded in snowdrifts
Your having a laugh arn't you? "Snowdrifts"!?! A couple of inches of blowing snow hardly qualifies as blizzard conditions.
Thats it - I've had enough of 95% of drivers in this country. They're all idiots.
I feel better now

Easy there. Don't lump us tough north-westerners ion with that pansy bunch on the east coast.
Having said that, all the women caught in the snow will be wearing mini-skirts and skimpy tops and the blokes will be in t-shirts.

Whats made it worse in my eyes is that the police have turned around and said that its not really the drivers fault.. it was "unexpectedly heavy".. so its not their fault that they are incapable of adjusting their driving to suit the prevailing conditions.
Before anyone gets too uptight about my title though - I know that where ever it had happened in the country the results would have been the same idiots incapable of driving in anything other than perfect conditions

Too true. When this happened last year, we were living in Aylesbury and my GF had a job interview in the welsh valleys that I was taking her too. Both Aylesbury and our destination were snowed in, so of course we went anyway.
It wasn't that bad at all, on the dual carriageways I had L2 all to myself because only L1 had been cleared (by lorries) and the snow was at best 3 inches deep, the only problematic part was getting the car out of the garage!
When we got there, half of the people who were supposed to be interviewing her hadn't bothered to turn up, blaming the snow!
Not sure I would have fancied doing that drive in her 200SX though

To be fair, the whole country grinds to a halt when a ice sugar coating of snow appears. Wasn't it last year when Cornwall was brought to a stand still. If i remember correctly it wasn't due entirely to the snow, but more due to the fact that people were abandoning their cars left right and centre, as it had all become a bit too much.
Left at around 9pm and got home around the same time as those that left at 5pm
Didn't have a scooby back then, now im praying for the stuff, can't wait to go sideways.

Well there was plenty about but nothing too hard to get around, just that everyone went home all at once and only on the main roads that caused so many problems.
Me i love the stuff.
I mean the downpour you were on about a year or two ago, so far this week there's been nothing.

the problem will be hgv's , the articulated trucks only have to look at snow and there stuck, the rigid trucks fair no better if empty,
and before anyone starts i drive a truck
thing is an artic gets stuck and blocks a road with just a 2/3inch's of snow, no one can get past and the weight of them means they aren't easy to move, usually/hopefully a local farmer with large tractor may take pitty and help,
there is obviously the crap drivers which seem to be everywhere these days
the looks i've had this morning
been out in my 4x4 pickup, 2wd , sideway everywhere i could
even a couple of nice petter solbergs style turns onto my drive
lets have some photos /videos of your antics and
how deep is your snow

I've just been out in a blizzard and survived! It was touch and go for a while but I made it through the storm. About five minutes before I made the decision to go out the road was clearing and the sun was coming out. By the time I'd sat in the car and waited for the heated screen to melt the snow drift on it I was in the middle of a blizzard. Getting up the steep hill out of my village was interesting, I built up a head of steam and went for it
I tell you it was life and death for a while, I now know how Scott of the Antarctic must've felt

However, they won't do you any good at all when the majority don't bother using them, as its them getting stranded that blocks the road rather than the actual snow. It'd need everyone to start using them really.
I was driving in Slovakia for 10 days over Christmas and we had over 5cm deep on the road some days. Everyone just carrys on as usual, as they a) have winter tyres (including the trucks), and b) don't drive like cvnts (usually).
