Default SHELLS profits

discusting!!!

we're all tightening our belts with higher interest rates, cost of living going up, petrol cost over a £1 a litre.

Then I can't sell our flat as 1st time buyers are holding off getting a mortgage.

But Shell tell us its their best year yet!

£13.8billion!!

£430 per second profit!!!!

Phil

But they don't make much from petrol sales, apparently.

Yes, we should be very grateful, because they are merely carrying out a public service by selling us petrol for no profit at great inconvenience to themselves. I wish more businesses did things that made them no money just to give them a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Good luck to 'em. I don't see how being good at their business or selling a commodity in demand is in any way discusting (sic). If you don't like it, don't buy it.

And why is it Shell's fault that interest rates are "high" (they're not, they're still pretty low, you've just been spoiled) and that you can't sell your flat (which if it isn't selling suggests it's not as valuable a commodity as petrol) unless you borrowed the money from Shell and it's across the road from one of their refineries?

Please bear in mind that 2/3 of the cost of fuel is pure tax by our government and is NOT in any way Shell's fault!!!!!

Fair play to 'em

They don't just make petrol btw, petrol is just a teeny tiny part of what they do and as said, most of what you pay at the pump is tax.

Well done SHELL ... excellent news - what do we want? Bad Companies not making profits?

The money is made in the Exploration and Refining of Oil - so all the reports say ......

Like someone above said, if you object to them then don't buy their stuff. If it's the price of petrol you object to, don't buy that either and catch the bus

So what

RBS profits beat forecasts | Money | guardian.co.uk

The Royal Bank of Scotland made around £9.6 billion last year and nobody seemed to throw their toys out the pram .....

As a previous poster said, fair play to any profitable company that trades legitimately

Well done Shell... Whilst they seem to keep their petrol prices competitive, their money management inginuity seems to have quite literally paid dividends :
I wish I was on the board there!

I may write to them thanking them and pay a few extra pennies for each and very litre in future.

Actually, I think thats very noble, as they should really be rewarded for carrying out such a valuable public service.

For the record, I don't have a massive issue with Shell making big profits; it just always makes me laugh when Oil Companies (and the other major culprit of this offence, Insurance companies), tell us all that they don't make any money on petrol (or car insurance), yet continue to be happy doing so out of the tender warmth of their wonderful hearts.

Good business sense is to stop doing something that doesn't make you any money right? So either they're stupid (which seeing their profits, doesn't seem very likely), or they're fibbing a little.

That's why Shell sold off so many of their forecourts (texaco bought most of them) because the profit margin was so minimal with forecourt sales.

Gasoline and diesel aren't the only things that come out of crude oil!

Here's an example: Crude Oil Refinery Output and Products

What are the uses of crude oil?

regarding HP - are you confusing turnover or sales with profit? HP's published accounts don't mention $ 108 billion in profit!

The company I work for is trying to make a profit as it the one that my brother works for...
Are people going to boycott all profit making companies?

The petrol is a bit of a loss leader to get you into the shop to buy your weekly groceries.

Well done Shell.

I am well aware that petrol is only one of the many products derived form the processing of crude oil, and one of the least profitable.

In fact it could be seen as a waste product, so they should pay us to take it off their hands
