I won't be on university challange this year - Uni/Exam Help Please!
A dipolma course I'm doing had several modules to it; law, management, finance, etc..
I ran out of time on the finance paper (poor planning I know) and as a result only scored 47, with a pass being 50.
As a result I have to retake the whole years module over again, along with several new modules *yippee*
Is it worth (and can I) ask for a recount to try and squeeze an extra three points? or should I just take it like a man... and sulk and swear a lot?
Strangely I scored well in management which included a section on planning... go figure!

Do you not have an allocated tutor that you can chat to informally or something? Bad luck btw.
Don't see what you have to lose anyway if you ask for a recount?? dl
And of course there was the emotional strain of your granny passing away the night before the exams (for the third time) which should be taken into account.....

Sorry mate, generally you won't get anywhere querying a mark. Papers are already double marked and externally moderated.
Unless there was something irregular about the nature of the exam which impaired your performance.....apart from the paper itself, or the time limit! OR you'd submitted mitigating cirsumstances beforehand, the mark will stand.
My advice would be to have a word with your SU to make sure though.
It's rare to have to repeat a whole module due to one failed exam though. Are there no re-takes?
Regards,
Paul

You may find that your subsequent mark is now capped at a bare pass too. This is bcause you have an unfair advantage having sat the course twice compared to the first time candidates.
Positives......Hmm, any totty on the course

Not having the option to resist is just mean. Just what sort of course is it
You will just have to come up with some nice extenuating circumstances that will get your 3%. The option of retaking a whole year's course just for 3% in one exam is a tough call to make. Is there a different course you can go on? One that has resists, something that is actually reasonable to pass...otherwise you may just end up wasting lots of time, and probably money.

Bit late for extenuation Luminous: ideally these are submitted before the exam, or at least straight after....not once you've got the marks.
There MAY be an appeal process, BUT students are very rarely sucessfull appealing against marks unless there is a bloomin good reason.
DCI should have a word with his course tutor and the SU though, as the status quo seems a bit daft!

I failed a module of my diploma course, ironically i needed 48 for a pass and got 45!.
I appealed and payed the £50 (oucH)
result the mark stood...
when we found out the national stats were were bemused.
of the 100 odd entrants, only 10 passed. It was a new module tht had never been done before. It made us laugh, when they then said, they couldn understand why so many people had failed..
i resat the exam when i took my next round of exams. (another £50) to resit the exam. I passed though

failing an exam....pretty stupid for a smart **** like yourself
Remarking usually costs £50, so it's worth a punt at that price to squeeze 3 marks out of the paper, it could save you another year of your life redoing the course. That is unless you value a year of your life less than £50
Or redo the work and sit up with your back straight and geek it up in class

Fancy failing finance, typical from someone who works under the government
Seriously though, if you think you have it in you then just re-do the course, added to the extra year of perving over the ladies who were in the class below you

well they may allow you to use that, but unless one of the markers is a CAPO, then you wont have any joy and have more chance of using coupons from the Coop
seriously though, I havent any experience of taking exams at such a mature age, because I did mine when I was 18 , but I am guessing that you may, just may have a case of resitting just the failed modules instead of the whole course. but I could be wrong

I have my next (insurance) exam in April. I'm about to read the chapter on "Business Interruption calculations".
Anyhow DCi, it's got to be worth a shot. If it can work for GW Bush in Florida, it can work for you my friend !
