If it was me I'd want to go to Venice but that's because I like boats and the water
I've never been so can't tell you if it's any good because no-one has ever whisked me off there for a surprise trip

Paris is a must see place, only spoilt by the ignorant french people, but the architecture is amazing and as long as you are with the one you 'love' you will enjoy it anyway

OP - you could take her up the Oxo Tower? I read a review once, sounded great
We went to Venice in Jan last year - very nice. Hunt around for great deals on tinternet. Am told Don't go in summer, as the water stinks. Advantage of winter is you can get foggy days/nights, very romantic. Our hotel was right by the station, a bit of a walk to St Marks but frankly when we got there it wasn't so much better than all the streets we'd already walked through; the only difference was the coffee and pizzarias had doubled in price by then.
