Clarkson in "opinionated t**t gets his come-uppance shocker"
TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has lost money after publishing his bank details in his newspaper column. The Top Gear host revealed his account numbers after rubbishing the furore over the loss of 25 million people's personal details on two computer discs.
He wanted to prove the story was a fuss about nothing.
But Clarkson admitted he was "wrong" after discovered a reader had used the details to create a £500 direct debit to the charity Diabetes UK.

On the contrary, how many times do you hear a politician with the ***** to say this:
"I was wrong and I have been punished for my mistake."
Furthermore, the following quote captures the mood of the nation in response to shocking lapses in the security of confidental data by various public services.
"Contrary to what I said at the time, we must go after the idiots who lost the discs and stick cocktail sticks in their eyes until they beg for mercy."
Clarkson is well aware of his limitations; he will not be getting involved in politics, but like him or not, he has the common touch that SO many politicians are lacking!

But he's not a politician though. If he becomes one expect him to be less outspoken and just as slippery as the rest of them!!

I suspect it was deliberate.
Certainly, he would have created a new account (prob with just the £500 in).
Win:Win for JC. If no-one was succesful he could claim that it IS a furore over nothing. If someone was succesful he can claim that this is a serious issue and that the govt. are incompetant and that data security really IS a serious matter.

what seems to have been missed is that the scammer set up a direct debit to make a payment to a charity of £500.
Any proper scammer would have nicked the money surely.
I suspect it was a clever publicity stunt that was set up, call it testing the water.
Not so stupid afterall !

Surely Barclays should be explaining why they let someone do this without any proof of ID?

Not sure how charity donations work but I`m sure you can get the ball rolling with name, bank details, address and D.O.B

Clarkson's problem arose because he had too much faith in his bank.
That was a BIG mistake! The people you can trust the least are your banks.
Nor DD either.

However, the 'scammer' hasn't actually nicked his cash have they? they haven't taken his money for themselves and they haven't cloned his identity and applied for loans etc. They've simply filled in an online form and made a untraceable donation to charity. If they'd paid themselves the money they'd have been found out immediately.

Lets face it, if the money was taken and kept by someone, i reckon it would be followed up but as it was donated to charity, the offender doesnt get collared and i doubt Clarkson would be stupid enough to ask the charity for the money back.

I still don't think so. Chances are, someone read his article and thought it would be funny to test Clarksons theory without really landing themselves in the poo.

Its just a publicity stunt to raise his profile even more, someone like satchi and satchi are probably behind it, they always come out with gimmicks like this to raise a celebs profile.

LOL @ this news!
At least he is openly seeing his backside, and saying "Contrary to what I said at the time, we must go after the idiots who lost the discs and stick cocktail sticks in their eyes until they beg for mercy."
