I have had a 40" Samsung 1080i LCD for a while now and it has been great. I still think the TV itself is one of the best looking flat screens I have seen.
Checkout AVForums.com for plenty of information and advice...

Hi Fatscoob, at the moment try here for the best deal Digital Direct | Widescreen TV, DVD, Hi-Fi, Camcorders, Home Cinema, HD Ready . You will better off waiting for January sales though, so not long to wait for a good bargain. At the moment they are selling the full HD Panasonic TH42PZ700 wall mounted plasma (brackets here are cheap i suppose) with one year manufactures warrenty for £1,208 inc VAT. When they say including VAT does that mean plus VAT if so the total is £1,419.41 total without bracket.

Yes Pioneer is the best 50 inch full HD plasma to go for, but they cost more than £3,000.

Argos can kick that price into touch for the same tv plus if you buy before January 18th you get a 3 year warranty, i am considering that tv myself at the min.

Buy Panasonic TH-42PX70PED 42in HD Ready Digital Plasma TV. at Argos.co.uk

I bought my 42" Panasonic from Allders knowing I would get a satisfaction of a 5 year warranty, which most places will not offer except for Johm Lewis. The prices at both stores are very reasonable, and they do a free delivery!

How about this Panasonic? Think theres some reviews out there too which are very positive.

Panasonic TH42PZ70B Plasma 42" 16:9 Viera 1080p Inc Ped | EmpireDirect.co.uk Electrical Appliances

I have a Samsung 42" Plasma (720p) myself and it's fantastic in HD and on the Xbox 360! Go for a 720p set instead of 1080p and you will save some £££'s, not sure if the difference in PQ is worth the extra at the moment?!

Not necessarily ...if the TV is bought in the course of the business i.e. stock for sale then, yes you can claim the input VAT back through the business VAT Return. However, if the TV is bought for personal use then you should not be claiming it, otherwise upon a VAT inspection it will def get picked up and you may end up having to pay the VATMAN back the Input VAT element plus interest. Sorry but I'm saying this with my Accountant hat on!

The service that i've had over the year's from richersounds has been supurb. They also employ people that know their stuff instead off kids on min wage which goes a long way in my book.

I'd say the TH42PZ700 as it has better sound apparently also more HDMI connections although i never heard and seen one switched on. I'm not knocking the 70. JP4 can you tell me if Digital Direct are adding VAT to the screen price please.

ScooByer Trade -

Digital Direct | Widescreen TV, DVD, Hi-Fi, Camcorders, Home Cinema, HD Ready

If you click on the above, then go to the bottom of the screen - it should say prices inclusive of VAT, so it's whatever price they say on the screen is the price you pay.

Any legit seller will always say whether VAT is inclusive or not. It is up to the buyer to request for a VAT receipt in order for them to claim back the input VAT.

Watch you don't confuse the Z and X panasonics.
Z is 1920 x 1080
X is 1024 x 768

You have to look close to see the difference on a two good panels. You also need to feed it with a good HD signal. Full HD are now the same price 768 panels were 12 months ago so you may as well have it though. When I bought mine the only 1080p plasma was £6k compared to £1500 inc 5yr warranty, delivery and wall mount. If/when I get a combo BD/HDDVD player I may get the young 'un to through a toy through the screen and upgrade to Full HD

Wow fella's.
Thanks for all the quick replies...
As corrado has just said,i would like the full 1080p resolution(1920x1080).I already have a plasma with a nice wall bracket,so just need a new TV..
The Samsung that WAh posted a link to looks nice, cannot find the screen spec though. And i have seen some places saying the screens are 1080p,when in fact they just have an 1080p upsampler with a 1024x768 screen.
I currently have a 1024x768 42" philips plasma that i have had for 3 years now and its been faultless, and in general the picture quality is good, yes it can lack in certain departments, but overall very happy really..

My aim was to try and get a replacement for around £800 in the sales..
Dont want to drop under 40" as im used to viewing this size now..

Thanks again for all teh repies..Mega helpful!!

This is the best price I have seen so far for the PZ, forget the PX it's an old model and I would not bother with the 40" Sammys, there is no end of complaints about them on AV forums. I have been looking for 3 months now and have discounted the Sammys and the most LCD panels to be honest as most seem to be a compromise in some way.

The only thing that bothers me about the PZ is the fan noise and screen burn/retention.

You need to make a short list and then go and look at these panels at a proper shop not one that is runing 30 TVs from one feed or you will just go around in circles diciding which one to buy.........like I am !!

I'm in the same boat, so much choice

Why have you discounted the LCD's? The write up in the link says LCD's are more popular and have more or less no risk of screenburn
