Bank issue. Help Required!
I'm off to a dear family friend for dinner this afternoon.
My friend was unfortunate enough to have her bank details sent to another person. This person was good enough to get in touch and alert her of this fact.
She has been in touch with the bank on a few occassions and they have offered her compensation however they do not seem to have grasped how serious this is.
Any advice on how to deal with this issue?
I'm a go for broke person and have told her to push them for a written apology plus ample compensation but it would be interesting to see what views you would add.
Regards!

Compensation? My thoughts exactly. They have been very quick to offer this. Nothing to do with a culture but it has been offered to keep things in hand. Noit asked for. Far from it.

Compensation - for what - people need to get over this i've been wroned and i must be owned some money for it. Did she fall over inside the bank on an unmarked wet floor, did she trtap her arm in an unsafe door, no. Has she losrt money or had identy theift that has cost her - er, 'no' from what you say!
Ok, rant about people who see compensation as their goal in life.
Contact the financial ombudsman, they take a very, very dim view of this sort of action and will punish accordingly.

What do you mean "bank details"?
Do you mean the information that is on every cheque your friend issues?
If so this is not a "serious issue". Now if they are dishing out card and PIN numbers that might be different.
Hope you had a nice lunch

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all.
Her complete mortgage account details were provided Not too sure what was disclosed but the person then wrote informing her what the implications may have been if she had not been quite so honest.
We may well be in a climate of compensation but if this is being offered by the bank in question who then multiply it ten fold then who are we to just let it lie.
A mistake was made but a full explanation and apology is all we want. The money is not at all important but my attitude is still go for broke see whether they will increase it further.
My friend was in contact with the ombudsman weeks ago and they are in the loop now too.
So if you hav anything further to add please feel free.
