Default What's the charge for a cheque in US dollars?

I've had a cheque for selling some US shares in dollars. What is the charge for putting this into my UK HSBC bank account? Does anyone know?

Tried ringing the general HSBC number and was answered by "Matthew" (in India it sounded like). I thought this would be an easy one that any call centre could answer. But it varies he said, without being able to give me specifics - I'd have to visit my branch. I haven't been to my personal branch in years and to visit it would be a right hassle - nigh on impossible.

I also have a Barclays and Nationwide account, so any information about them would be ok too
