Default Recommendations for CCTV?

There seems to be loads around on the market but a recommendation is always good.

I don't actually intend to monitor it on a screen but want it to record onto something (ie video/hard drive etc). It must be one where it records over itself every x days otherwise I'll forget to do it!

Costco have got one but its really expensive at £1000.Need something cheaper.

Thanks

Have you considered moving house? If you are that concerned that you need CCTV and barbed wire then you must live in a pretty bad neighbourhood.

Saw Jade Goody and her waste of space boyfriend at Willows Farm, St Albans this weekend.

Could hear her gobby voice a mile off!

No, I'm lucky its a very nice neighbourhood Kiwi, but as a consequence is sometimes targeted by *******. Its no point them targeting other ******* on their council estate is it?

I'm just a little sensitive as in the space of one week one colleague has been car jacked at knife point and another burgled whilst his family slept upstairs.

Chief, I'd need 3 max 4 cameras with IR and weatherproofed. Thanks

I have been using a company called RF Concepts for a good 5+ years.

They do a couple of good spec DVRs with decent size HDD's ect. They do one with a DVD burner on it for removing the video off the actual HDD which is quite handy.

£200 will get you a 4 ch 250GB unit. Will record for approx a week on 25fps.
If you are feeling a bit more flush then the DVD burner DVR will cost c.500.

Camera wise, there is a massive choice. The main thing you need to watch is the lighting. Even low light cameras wont give you a very good picture at night, you really will need an IR illuminator / camera combo for a good picture.

RF do an LED IR armoured dome for £85. Again if you want a bit of a higher spec then they have it - same dome but with high res camera is £150 ish.

So all in, lower spec (but fully operational) system c.£600 or higher spec c£1100.

If you want some advice call them and ask for Billy.

Thanks, you guys both mention domes. Are these ok for outside? ie weatherproof and angle of capture?

Thanks

btk, that company is based in NI, better if I stuck to the UK (for warranty etc)

I looked into doing this as a job and i did a system for another Smacs member but to be honest i made bugger all on it with all the faffing about, best bet get a full cctv system from a reputable supplier, i could do it but i'd struggle matching their prices.

Try CCTV Cameras, CCTV Systems, CCTV DVR, Security Camera, CCTV Accessories

these seem pretty good though.....

Deep, RF are in NI but most of their customers are on the main land. They have a very good returns system and TBH in all my dealings with them (I must have had 50 cameras off them now) I only ever had one return. Most of their stuff is Sony so will last. Domes are fine for outside so long as you get one with the correct IP rating. If you really dont fancy NI then try FVS but I think its trade only.
