Important Sky Info
(shamelessly copied from the Golf MKIV forum)
In the latest "SKYMAG" magazine (Dec 2007) There is a a small piece of paper inserted within the magazine which has a title on the top - Applies only in the UK as far as I know.
"IMPORTANT: NOTICE OF CHANGES TO HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION"
Basically I've attached a scan of the rear of the insert to read for yourself. This is "very" naughty in my opinion, however, if you ring the number shown and select option 5, then 5 again then option 1 I think it is, then you can opt out of this ludicrous underhand way of sharing your personal information. Putting the notice on an A5 piece of paper and including it as an insert is particularly crafty, particularly when most people either throw the magazine out or at the very least the inserts...
I think it's a premium number you have to ring as well, however, I did get through tonight within a minute or so, so not too bad. This is gathering momentum so god only knows how long it will take before your hanging on the phone for an hours at a time waiting to be put through.

im pretty sure they cant do this?
I though the law was changed a few years back so that the option has to be that you "opt" in not "opt" out.
Thats why the tick boxes on online stores now ask you to tick the box to receive junk, not untick it not to recieve it.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Kieran.
I'll be on the phone to them in a bit, telling them where to stick their junk mail/calls partners.

Not as bad as it first seems, when you sign up to Sky you're given the option whether to share your details or not.
If you chose not to when signed up it remains that way.
If you chose to share when you signed up it stays the same.

I spotted this and am also sure its against the law, but since when did large businesses care about such trivial matters as the law?
I have been trying to call the number on the sheet since wednesday and its been engaged all week.

How much will they make from all the calls from people option out.
As you can manage your account online now, you should simply be able to opt out there too.

Apples, Sky+ no longer carries a monthly premium, so all you need to do is buy a box. Try E-Bay or, failing that, I have a spare one unused here - make me an offer and I'll bring it down to Chilworth on Wednesday and you can collect it from there...

Currys are doing Sky+ boxes for £30 and £30 installation for existing sky customers, don`t know how long this offer is on for though.

Apples, you need to call Sky Customer Services and get the box paired with your card, but that's all. As far as how much, I have no idea. Just looked on E-Bay and they seem to be going for anywhere between £50 and £200.
If that Currys deal is kosher (and it probably is) then take it!
