Default Ebay troubles, help needed :(

I've been ripped off with something I sold where Paypal has frozen the funds sent to me. Anyway, another Ebay user has sent a message to me via Ebay to share info as they have been ripped off by the same user.

Everytime I try to reply to them via the "Respond Now" yellow button it lets me fill out the message but won't send it , just says this

Attention! We have determined you are trying to contact an eBay member with whom you are not currently involved in an open transaction. For the protection of the eBay community, we sometimes block these types of communication. To prevent this occurrence from happening in the future, we recommend the following:
  • If you are a seller, respond to all bidder questions before the auction ends.
  • If you are trying to contact the seller of an item that has not yet ended go to the item page and click the “Ask seller a question” link.
  • If you are the winning buyer of an item go to your My eBay page under the items I’ve Won section. Click the action drop down menu and choose the “contact seller” action.
  • If you are a seller trying to contact your winning buyer, go to My eBay and under the Items I’ve Sold section, click the action drop down menu. Choose the “contact buyer” action.
  • Reply to seller/bidder through personal email provider (if the sender has not hidden their email address).
Thank you for your understanding.
Now, you must be able to contact other Ebay users somehow 'cause this person has been in touch with me without any other dealings.

Anyone know how I can do it?

Cheers, Andy

Are they selling anything? Use 'ask seller a question' then it is about a transaction so should go through....

Can't do that either, the person that contacted me has been scammed by the same ebayer as I have.

I don't actually have any dealings with the ebayer who contacted me and he isn't selling anything at the moment.
I'm sure you must be able to do it somehow 'cause he managed to contact me in the first place. Just having trouble replying.

Click on the 'community' tab in the top right and enter his user name.
When it brings it up (and similar ones) Click on the user name or the feedback number of the one you want.
Click contact member

Job done.

Ebay have a limit on how many messages you can send to someone you havent dealt with - its designed to stop people spamming you or sending out dodgy second chance offers etc...

Technically you arent allowed to discuss dealings with another member on there, even if they have ripped you and other people off.

Only real option is to get someone else to contact them from their ID and ask for their email address, or wait until they have something for sale and try again then.

Thanks Mike, tried it with a mate of mine today and we could send each other messages but can't send any to this user.
Maybe it's 'cause his feedback is really low - will have to wait and see if they get in touch again.
Thanks all of you for the ideas anyway
