Oh no! Another plasma LCD thread
Time to update the 32" CRT I bought for £300 over 7 years ago.
Main priority is watching football without the picture blurring with quick direction changes.
Mostly watching through SKY non HD, but would also like freeview
I doubt 1080 is neccessary as I don't do gaming
37" to 42" Price around £600
You won't believe me but I did a search and I still don't know if plasma or LCD is best for watching non HD sport!
Please help! My old TV is a Samsung and its done me proud, I hear their plasmas are OK.
Best bit of advice I've found is to get to John Lewis and price match, but what about the telly?!!

Plasmas are supposed to be better for that sort of stuff.
If you could stretch to £750 you could have the 42" model that I went for, which is excellent for both film and sports - Panasonic 42PX70. If you can't, there's probably a 37" version?

I've got a Panny - quite simply the best panel for the price. There are lots of imitators, but the old phrase stands true (IMHO) "Buy cheap, buy twice"......

Funnily enough I was looking at the 37px70. £799 without a £99 stand, from John Lewis. Bit above my budget, not sure about the price match rules either

Empire Direct have the PX42 at £730. If you buy a card for IIRC £20 you get 5 year warranty.
I did this and at the time they had a 10% discount so got it under £700. I also bought through Quidco and got about £15 back.

Hoff, this Amazon.co.uk: Samsung LE37R87 - 37" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview: Electronics & Photo sounds like a contender, means I can get a funky TV stand as well all under budget
Do you have any experience of the Samsung LCD panels? How good are they regarding watching sport (footy).
Obviously I'm going to have to actually get out more and go to one of these 'high street stores' I hear of

One other thing to consider, is power consumption. Plasmas power consumption is ad enough to have led the Aussies to seriously consider banning them from as early as next Autumn.

ive got apx37 viera, they are superb, there was an issue with them making a clicking noise at first, but mine has since stopped so im well happy,
perhaps an lg if you cant stretch to a viera,
when i got mine there was demo disk on display with a viera and a brvia lcd, and the bravia was really blurred, ask at john lewis they will show it to you but wouldnt price match pixmania and places like that or even currys a few miles away, so i got mine from there.

I'm not going to swap yet but I currently have a 50" Bravia but only 720P/1080i and it's around 2.5 years old.
The new gen 3 HD-DVD players with 1080p, HDMi 1.3 Deep Colour, 24frame per second direct output and or course the ability to output the new HD sound formats via HDMi bitstream.
So I've started looking at TV's with 1080P, HDMi 1.3 Deep Colour, and the ability to directly play 24fps.
I'm looking at 50"+ and the two that have blown me away so far have both been LCD and are the Toshiba 52Z3030D and the Sony KDL-52X3500 which is also available in 70".
I haven't seen a Plasma that can rival these with an HD source but they do retail at over £2500 but you can scrape nearer £2k on line.
May have a look what sort of deals are on after Christmas.
Also Sony's Bravia is just a range of TV's with many different price ranges and technologies. Saying I didn't like a Bravia is like saying I dont like Ford. There's everything from a 1.2LX to 2.5Turbo Titanium X in the Bravia range.

Get round to mine to see a 32" Panny Viera LCD (quality, features etc), I regret going for this size, but depending if you are planing changing your living romm round the 42" may be too big.

Well priced but not without problems. Been looking for a new LCD for a while now and it came down to the sammy and the Sony KDL W and V series. The Sammy has far to many bugs which is a shame because its a nice well priced TV.
The Sony is a little more pricy but well worth the extra cost. I decided on the KDL40W3000 by the way.

BTW yep we're changing the room around, sofa will be 15' away but I think 42" is too big.

Jay - Fast moving footy is no problem on mine. Try Dixons for the best online price, I got mine with Quidco discount and a half price glass stand!
The early R87/R88's has a panel lottery but within a couple of months they all come with the best one now.

What size panel do you have? I really like this one but was put off by the stories on AVforums about ghosting, green lines and having to turn the 100hz setting off the get a better picture.
