Al Jazeera News Channel
Has anyone else switched over to watching this?
I'd pretty much given up watching the news, as I'm fed up of the political agendas and general miserable feeling you get watching sky/cnn.
I came about watching it by chance, but have to say it's a breath of fresh air. A bit middle east/asia based as you'd expect but they don't seem to have an agenda on things

not at all, despite what you would expect.
Unless they plan to suck us all in with unbiased news, then when we all watch it they will subliminally turn us all into terrorists

I had it on my sat for about 2 years now (English version I mean). It's got nothing to do with the mythical "let's show some more beheadings" idea that people have.
It's a ME version of CNN (they even learned their ropes there, and some guys came over from CNN - Riz Khan ? <sp> ? ), even the tunes sound very alike.
It's a good watch to balance things out, and is hated very much by radical muslims I mean: female anchors with no headscarf

Do they manage to maintain their journalistic integrity when the story focuses on Israel or a perceived West Vs. East/Islam matter though?

Journalistic integrity Ho hum.
As good or as bad as the other media do TBH. It really has the same shortcomings as CNN.
Robert Fisk of The Independant is much "heavier" and critical on Israel than Al Jazeera. Don't forget they are not really a "Muslim" outfit. Some journalists seem very good, others not so.
Oh, and they'll surely make mistakes, or are too simplistic at times. Not that the BBC or CNN would ever do that
Personally, I rather read Fisk than watch AlJ., but just wanted to confirm what the OP was saying.

They are not stupid, the al jazeera shown in the far east celebrates extremism in the full, they use the "soft" english version to get people to say what you all said.
Look it up.

Maybe that is true, however, they are giving us an unbiased news channel over here. That's more than can be said for our 'western' channels.
My reason for posting was that it was an unexpected and welcome surprise, i've been watching it for a week or so now and it'll continue to be my news channel of choice for the time being.

Obviously any media source has it's bias, the key is to take your information from as many sources as possible and draw your own conclusions. Obviously.

Al Jazeera is actually a very, very, good news agency. The only reason the US doesn't like them is because they don't hang on every word of the White House Press Officer.
If anyone wants to question their integrity - Al Jazeera was the only news agency thrown out of both the West Bank AND the Gaza strip when Fatah and Hammas fell out, because they refused to broadcast either sides spin on the events that were occurring.
And before anyone starts going on about how involved they are with islamic fundamentalist groups; channel 4 news sat down with the head of the Taliban who resides in Pakistan not long ago, an individual who is wanted by almost every authority in South Asia, also, I've personnally witnessed Sky News Camera crews turning up on the scene of attacks in Afghanistan/Iraq seconds after the attack had happend. You make whatever conclusions you want from that.

It was fun to watch it for the first time though. "Let's see what these bloody radicals have to say then eh."
First: item... hmm, that's rather normal. Second item: ... yeah, seems plausible. Third item: yeah, OK, that's what CNN said as well. And so on.
After a while I started to realise I've been had again. How on earth's name have our own media been able to paint such a grim picture ?
