MP4 Player Wont Play Anamorphic Video
Im looking for a simple application that will allow me to add black bands to an anamorphic widescreen video file (to make 1.78:1/1.85:1 video up to 4:3).
Ive ripped the original DVD and then converted the stream to a DivX compressed AVI file. Unfortunately, it turns out that the MP4 player that Im using doesnt add the required black bands, so while 4:3 aspect ratio files play correctly, anamorphic widescreen films dont.
Any help appreciated.

Yes and no. It works but it doesnt display widescreen videos correctly and more importantly, it keeps deleting the contents of the 'Music' directory (which it duplicates). For a reason that I dont understand, this can be recovered by deleting it through a PC, where the phantom 'Music' directory is too large for the recycle bin. If you cancel the action the contents reappear and you can delete the duplicate directories... The video recorder doesnt work either, but that seems to be a known issue.

I found it good for removing packed bitsreams so I get flawless playback on my dvd player of divx files, packed bitsreams playback really jerky
It doesnt re-encode either, but it does have AR options, so worth a try as it is pretty quick

Im tinkering with it now, but I cant see how to add simple black bars top & bottom of a 1.78:1 WS file. I need to add these to enable the file to play on a device that doesnt seem to add them automatically (as a DVD player does).

Sony Vegas and Media Studio will both let you add black bars
neither are free though
MEncoder will also do it, it is free open source linux /mac not sure if there is a windows version
