NO FIXED SPEED CAMERA'S.
What else do you need to know?
Where abouts in County Durham are you thinking of moving to? I live in Darlington, which all in all is a nice place to live. Like every county/town in the UK in has it's good and bad area's.
Average wage? Depends on what job you do I suppose. What you may lose in wage (compared to the south) you make up by house prices being genaraly lower. Although again it depends on where you live, as there a some very expensive properties around here.
Outsiders? As long as you speak English you'll be fine.
Places to avoid living in Co. Durham? Newton Aycliffe, Shildon, and most of Bishop Auckland.

and coundon and spennymoor Sunderland is not too hot from the places I have driven through (and not stopped)
There are nice places to live. Richmond, Barnard Castle, Heighington. You'll just have to drive around to get a feel for the place. Post up areas you are going to, we can always help you avoid some of the worst.

thanks for the replys guys
Its going to be in the Redworth Area,( 10 mile radius) ive been looking at property in the bishop auckland area...... but seems a bad idea..
The house prices do seem cheap compared to down south.... i could buy a detached 5 bed home for what my 3 bed mid terrace cost..

Right. Redworth area.
Obviously I don't know your budget, but..... Redworth itself has some nice houses. There are a few in Redworth Hall grounds itself.
You could try Woodham Village (not a village) but part of Newton Aycliffe. They called it Woodham village to disassociate it from Newton Aycliffe. You need to buy in the original part though (old part) as they are quite large houses with decent land/gardens. They come at a price though. The newer part of Woodham are just like any other newish housing estate. Detached means 1/2 inch from next door.
If you were looking Bishop Auckland way, try looking Darlington way instead. Depends upon where your planning on working I suppose. I drive from Darlington to Aycliffe every day. Only 10 minutes away.
If your more a Village man, try Bishopton, Red Marshall (more Stockon way) but there are some very good back roads leading to them .
You could try Middridge Village (my mother lives there) and is 5 minutes away from Redworth.
As said above. You could try Heighington. Although you really need to buy on the Village green. (A walk away from Redworth)

stilover, wow thanks fella.....
Budget is 250k, looking for a 3/4 bed with garage and large gardens for the dogs.
Would prefer a newer age property than village life..
Am not too fussed about being about 20 miles out of the redworth hall hotel area. this is where i will be working if all goes to plan...
Im gonna pop up on wednesday next week to do a recce of the area..
SO are the roads up there any good for bikes too??
OH and what is the crime like in that area ? ie car theft etc.. this is part of reason we are looking to leave the city..

I'll second Stilover's advice. All the areas he has said are good, are good
Durham Road is good in Bishop Auckland as you climb the hill. Bishop is getting better as time goes by. The pubs and cafes are a lot better than they used to be. If you want a nightclub, then the only place with a half decent one is going to be Darlington (assuming you can find one anywhere else).
