Don't lament the country mate, this country is a great country. It's the vermin like the ***** who thinks attacking a pensioner is acceptable that need lamenting. That and the current law and order policy which we have.

I would really love to slowly poke that *****'s eyes out with a sh1tty stick. How on earth can you attack and old man like that.

Ridiculous occurances like the sentencing in this case go on all the time. A Dutch tv documentary maker (Peter R. de Vries) did a film about a convicted pedophile working with children and lying to their parents to build trust. The pedo went to court and got an injunction banning it being transmitted because it would breach his rights to even show in which town the piece had been filmed. What about the rights of kids not to be molested by a sicko ? The world has gone mad.

this is a great country - the attacker had a history of mental illness. one wack job lashing out on a train is a reflection of nothing more than that bloke.

what about the two kids that gave chase! nice to see some kids doing some good!

The sentance is another issue but not what this thread was about.

The guy had a mental problem. Prison probably wasn't the place for him. dl

Perhaps a job as a tram conductor would be good therapy to help the guy to confront his demons get over the trauma of almost killing a defenceless old man? Should he main someone again, then maybe a long holiday in the sun would be the right place for him?

Alternatively a bullet in the head would be the sort of treatment Dr. Suresh would be prescribing

It's probably knocked the last bit of quality time off the old boy's clock.

I can't believe he didn't get some time - mentally ill or not. There are still detention centres for people with mentall illness to keep them away from doing this sort of thing.

Gordon, who left Croydon Crown Court smiling at reporters, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm after the attack was caught on CCTV.

Dark alley mate.. dark alley..

As long as he smiles I'll be OK.

Disgusting, he should have been locked in jail or sent to a mental hospital until he is safe to walk the streets.

On a side not if this had been a 44 year old white man attacking a black old boy, he would be doing a 5 stretch.

^^^^^^Got to be a contender for most stupid post of the week.

I didn't realise sentencing guidlines were different for different races...

What sentence would have an asian person, or an maybe an eskimo have received?

And some do not get jail - even for molesting an 18 month old child!!!
BBC NEWS | England | Bristol | Man spared jail for sex attacks

and this recent gem
Child rape 'lenient' sentences doubled | the Mail on Sunday
Had to have their sentences doubled to four years, so out in two!
the original judge said that he thought the youngest girl dressed provocativly - says a lot about the judge really!

The messages this sends out are the wrong ones

Artacks on the weakest people in society such as the old and infirm and children seem to be on the increase and it says a lot about our society and how it is going down hill imho

Very few people ever want to jump in and help these days either, they are scared of being arrested them selves!

Yep that's 'care in the community' for you. You have John Major to thank for that.

You've got to laugh at all the people that think it's so unacceptable for Mr X to hit Mr Y and yet if they had been there would have dealt with it by in turn hitting Mr X themselves.

I firmly believe it would be right to use whatever force necessary to stop him attacking another person, yes! I'm not saying beat the living crap out of him, but if someone is attacking someone else, surely it must be right to try to stop him doing so, using reasonable force (I'm not saying I'd punch his face in and then jump on his head when he's on the bus floor and then finally **** on him when he's out cold).

I'm not entirely sure what the law says on self defense, e.g. can it apply for protecting a third party?

Yes, you are allowed to intervene in the defense of another person. Reasonable force is allowed.

What is reasonable force is up to the scrot's lawyer to decide when they take you to court

For some weird reason I feel unreasonably positive about society today. Sure, there are lots of problems with society, but with more and more cases like this, I'm sure the politicians will eventually have to bow to public pressure and change the punishment scale for GBH etc. The only way is up
