Question Can anybody explain the point of FaceBook?

Sorry, perhaps I'm getting too old or something. I just don't get it. Why? What's the point?

I just about got MySpace, and concluded that surely there must be more to life than constantly updating a web page that people might chance upon......

I need educating on this, as it just seems a total fookin waste of time!!

Anybody?

If the friends were that good, why were they lost...?

I never joined friendsreunited because I have no desire to talk to any of the dipsticks I went to school with that I don't already still talk to. Although I'm sure there are hundreds that check every day to see if I have

Same goes for "social networking", I'm socially networking with all the people I want to thanks very much (and strangely, that seem to include here...!)

I've been dragged into it unwillingly, kicking and screaming.

Have found it of "some" interest....mainly perving at pics of my g/f's freinds

By all accounts it started off as an american high school, college thing. With kids travelling thousands of miles to new colleges and uni's it was a great "network" to use to stay in touch, and catch up after years.

The kids left uni, moved onto jobs, out into the open wide world, carried on using Facebook, other worked started using it, became keen on it. Interest spread and voila.

Bit like some wierd **** idea called Ebay, where you can buy and sell things person to person, not business to business, all over the world. Try it, eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Its the internet, a big open expanse to be used and abused.... Personally, with exception to the bites, drinks, and gifts on Facebook, I think its great. Caught up with some old friends.

As for the "friends" and why lost...
Did you stay in touch with EVERYONE you got on with through all your schooling ?
I didn't, but im in touch again now.

I do really like it.

My rules are though....

Dont add people I dont know. Myspace was shocking for that.
Dont add crap applications to it.
I use it to keep me in the loop and others in my world.

Oh and its actually really good for local and national networking, and I dont mean dating or grooming either lol.

I thought the exact same thing when i looked at it, but now im a member, ive got in contact with loads of old mates from school that i thought id never see ever again

To me its a bit like friends reunited, but much more interactive with those you want to speak with again, and its all free too

I think its a great site, but i do have mates that simply use it as a pick up tool, but theres nowt wrong with that is there

I have had many friends in the past and over the years have lost touch with them... I have many friends now and struggle to keep in touch with them.
Facebook has proved invaluable to be as a tool to find long lost friends (some of whom now live abroad - which probably explains how we lost touch) and we can now share photos, instant message, email etc with ease. Another great part for me has been finding friends through friends on it...
It's part of my daily online life now, SN and Facebook are my two most visited sites and Facebook knocks the socks off myspace for the kind of thing I want it for (online contacts etc)
