Following a broken metatarsel, how long is the foot swollen and bruised for?

a month to 6 weeks for it to completely heal and it can be swollen for pretty much the whole period depending on how bad the break was.
You not been to see a doc, guessing you dont have a cast on or anything, if you did have and they took it off after 2 weeks you'd find it probably looks worse than before it went in the cast

She loathes hospitals with a passion and getting her there initially was bad enough let alone trying to get her to go again. She's back in in 2 weeks, but at least this may set her mind at ease a little.

definately wait 6 weeks before worrying about it being swollen. You have to remember that when you break a bone you also damage all the muscles and ligaments. Could even take upto 8 weeks. If the swelling is going down Im sure its going to be fine with time.

So were any of you sports / fitness mad at the time of the break? Penny is and can't wait to get back to the gym. She spins alot but is worried that she won't be able to for a few weeks after she's been given the all clear by the hospital.
Gym instructors are saying it'll be weeks, but look at Beckham and Rooney, they are playing international level football after 6-8 weeks - but I know they have the best medical cover possible.

I broke one & fractured another this time last year. I was put in a plaster & had that on for 6 weeks. Then i had to use a walking stick for 4 weeks after that. I went for an examination about 2 months after all this & the foot was still swollen around about 30cm of a difference. This has all went now & the foot is back to normal.
