Angry TG in trouble over Porsche pipe stunt

Top Gear pipes anger anti-smokers
Anti-smoking campaigners have asked the BBC to apologise after Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May lit pipes on Sunday's show.

I have to say that as an ex-smoker that ASH and their ilk can stick their PC opinion in their pipe and smoke it

Taken from the ASH website- Spokesbusibodyperson Amanda Sandford said:

"If it was really necessary for them to smoke they could have done the filming outside. It is supposed to be a programme about cars that has a young following and I do not think it is necessary to feature smoking on a programme like that," she added.

Rather than hook our easily courruptible youngsters into taking up the filthy habit, I got the distinct impression watching the show that smoking a (Porsche) pipe was a very uncool thing to do.

The May and Clarkson pics have looks as if to say "Come off it"

I like the "Hammond declined to light his pipe"
Phew, wouldn't want to risk his appeal by lighting up.

How totally absurd. I agree they'll love the attention. If anything, I think Clarkson should apologise to Jason Plato. He was quite hurt in the fire and they weren't exactly friendly towards him.

A spokeswoman for Waverley Borough Council said ..."Smoking is not permitted in a smoke-free place."
Waverley is on good hands then...

I dont smoke, i dont like people smoking near me and i hate listening to people with smokey breaths. I am totally ANTI-SMOKING even my girlfriend is made to smoke outside. BUT what a bunch of ******* complaining about such a small and stupid thing, all the members of ASH should be burnt alive for wasting air and plus we dont need there sort in the gene pool in my humble opinion

Infact here is a list of people i dont believe should be allowed to share the air i breath or for that matter pollute the gene pool i sometimes dip into

ASH members
Greenpeace members
The Labour party
Northern Irelands dim witted government officials
The cast and crew of Home & Away, Neighbours, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, VA VA VROOM & Fifth Gear
All the idiots i work with
Every member of staff at Currys

if you wish to add to this list please do

Smoking indoors is allowed if it part of the act of the performers, which in this instance I would say it was.

I think all the anti's can go **** them selves with a hot poker.

Does anyone have a hate-mail erm I mean.. e-mail address for her? I'm sure she'd value some feedback. These soppy PC types usually do.

Top gear as a whole has gone down the pan.

1 review in 1 hour. 10 mins of good tv and that was the R8/911 comparison

They should scrap the star in the reasonably priced car, its soul destroying. Very boring tv! They need to review more cars, afterall it is a car tv show.

IMO anyway.

If they get fined or reprimanded over this the UK needs to take a long hard look at itself. It was a bit of fun and was probably taken as such my the millions who watched it except of course for the handful of miserable b******s that like to complain at anything and of course that overly sensitive ASH spokesidiot Amanda Sandford.

Well Amanda or any of the ASH who may read this I have never smoked in my life, but your attitude to things like this hacks me off to the point where I may just start as a protest against your nonsense.

Cool

Oh how I love to see the good old SN double standards.

"I was caught speeding, and need advice"

SN answer...."if you can't do the time etc. etc......"

If, and that is if, because they may have the loophole of being performers, they have broken the law, it's suddenly ok, and what a bunch of kill joys ASH are.

It would seem that if you are a hero in the eyes of SN, then you are above the law

Personally, I thought it was quite amusing, but they didn't have to light them to get the point home.

TG is very tired as a motoring prog now, run out of ideas and things like this just go to prove it. It has long ceased to be a motoring programme, and has simply become (albeit very good) light entertainment.

Mail sent:

Subject: Top Gear Complaint
Dear Busy-body,

I would like to complain about your complaint concerning the serious smoking crime seen during the BBC Top Gear episode that aired on 14th October 2007.
The pipes were clearly necessary to the artistry of the piece and in case the presenters made smoking look foolish rather than glorifying it. Haven't you got anything else better to do with your time?
