It is worrying in the extreme that there are apparantly places on the whole of the Earth that are worse than Blackpool, let alone in the UK.

I cant see how Manchester got in the list when places like Birmingham are by far a bigger sh!thole. How have they compiled the list?

How come Bradford didn't make the list?

It seems flawed to me

Luton should be up there, judging by my experience of that hole relative to a few of those on the list

Edit - seems Lewis's list agrees!

I lived in Islington and quite liked it, well some bits

Merthyr Tydfil is one of the most depressing places I've ever been to, along with Blackpool

I'm amazed Bracknell and Aldershot aren't in there somewhere.

If we are talking depressing places I would like to nominate ... Aberystwyth in Wales.

Rows and rows of drab grey pebbledashed Council houses ..... rows and rows of MOT failures.

Aberystwyth is where cars go to die ... I have never seen such a deprived hole of a place.

I'm sure the people are great .. but, I felt rather vulnerable with my Scooby in the LIDL Car Park there!!

Luton, hah. I live in Luton, a very nice part of the town where nowhere near any riff-raff. It is an ok town to live in, much the same as any other town with 180,000 living in it. Touch wood, never been burgled or had my car stolen, I bet some on here that live in 'good' areas can't say that. Luton is quite a central place with excellent transport links.

I've been to far far worse places, especially Birmingham, what a true craphole that is.

Cannot see why Brighton is there at all, apart from Whitehawk there are no real bad areas.

I think they should compile a list of the top 100 crappiest places to live and then ALL of us would be in it.

Agreed. Brighton is a great place to live. As house prices demonstrate!

Nowhere in Cornwall.
In fact nowhere in the whole South West.

Splendid.

Where's Doncaster and Croydon? Minging pits of gloom and doom.

Having lived in/near 3 of those places I would disagree, although it depends which parts of each place they mean?

I currently live near Burnley, and its a very decent town - full of hard as nails folk who would kill you in an instant, and has the odd rough area that you stay away from, but as a town its very good and offers everything you need, including decent shopping and boozing facilities if you're that way inclined.

I actually live on the outskirts though for various reasons

Can't believe Coventry isn't on there

Ascot - a soulless collection of "executive gated developments", Mercedes SL drivers, aspiring Mercedes SL drivers, and ridiculously suntanned 40 something bints. Give me rows of Northern Town terraces and real people any day...

Love Scotland and much of Wales but the North and the Midlands are deeply unimpressive - excepting Yorkshire Moors, Peak District and much of Cumbria.
