loads of sports irish type bars just off the main square.
went last year, had a good time but don't drink in the street, they don't like it and beware of the local girlies, the blokes don't like drunken foreigners touching up their women - it is a very catholic country.
watch out for the taxis. get your hotel or something to book you a taxi out it is normally cheaper as they do it on the meter. Either agree a price up front or make sure it is on the meter or they will rip you off something awful!
Apart from that we though U Louisa was the best bar by miles.
Oh and if you can get to Auschwitz, go, you won't regret it.

I enjoyed the Salt Mine - amazing (IMHO) what has been built down there.
Had two good meals at Smak Ukrainska which is not far from the castle / cathedral. They do a cracking goulash. Meal for four with beers, £25
Had another good meal at a restaruant I forgot the name of but I think it was opposite one called Bergerac. Watch out for the "dip" they give you with you bread - it's lard
There's a pub which I forgot the name of but we knew it as The Dog in the Fog bar (that's a brand of beer). American themed inside but they were showing football whilst were there (good food as well). Not too far from the Old Town Square.
Would echo the comments about visiting Auschwitz. If you want an easy option to get there, there's a travel company opposite the Grunwald statue just outside the town walls which we used (and for the Salt Mine as well).

FWIW, I felt safer in the Old Town Square on a Saturday night in Krakow then I would do in a similar town square here in the UK (which would probably be full of drunks and groups of kids hanging about).

I went for a stag do earlier on in the year, great place! We stayed around the square but there are loads of pubs just off it if you prefer.
I agree on the trip to Auschwitz too. Took about 45 minutes in a taxi to get there. Deserves a trip.

Krakow is a great place, it feels relatively safe although like most cities there are always dodgy areas and people. My wife used to work in several bars as a student and has lots of stories about the mafia that reside in Krakow and how they run the businesses.
The lard is actually bacon and is tasty on bread.

Agreed. Less groups stood about, less drunken yobs and quite a good police presence too. As i say they do not allow public drinking and if you do get in a fight you are liable to be the one arrested not the local person whether you started it or not so if you get in that situation, walk away.

If you are on a Stag do and want strip clubs then DONT go to Prestige, bouncers carry iron bars and batter you to pay to leave if you are the last in.
Club gold on the outskirts of the city is good, nice women and friendly doormen.
Definately go to the salt mines, well worth a visit.

Looking into maybe doing a long weekend to Krakow in November.
Auschwitz would certainly be interesting to see, and whats the deal with the Salt Mines?
Also whats the place like for nightlife, are there many 'gentlemans' clubs there?
