Gift idea - Friend emigrating
My mate who's in his fifties is emigrating to France and I'm going to his leaving doo soon. What could I get him as a farewell gift
He's an old hippy growing old in total disgrace A lifelong artist who dabbled in drugs throughout the 60's and 70's, is a reformed alcoholic and now racked with a painful and debilitating illness which it is hoped the warmer climate will ease. Loves rock, blues and pretty much any music, being an excellent guitarist himself and serious hi-fi buff. Enjoys reading political history after many years of socialist activism and being a former Lord Mayor and local politicians son. I'm gonna miss our 5-minute, day long chats but look forward to visiting him in his new home.
So, any ideas folks

I'd hazard a guess he's already got it. He has a wall of books 12 feet long and 9 feet high, some art, most politics and history.

Will he have something to plays CDs? Assume so.
If so try and find a music store that has a decent collection of jazz/rock/blues CDs from say the early 60s and get him a few. Just depends on what he is into. He might like some old John Mayall, early Clapton, some of the black blues lads or Django/Grapelli jazz stuff (which would be a neat French link).
Or go to e-bay and get some old jazz club posters to hang up on the wall of his new pad.
Sounds my type of guy

Get a card and write "**** off and don't come back" in it.
With a ps "there's no pressie as I know your political beliefs would find such things distasteful".
